Very handy with kids around October 31, 2007 Jennifer Childs (Hillsboro, OR) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
We bought this alarm because we have young kids who love to be independent and help out by getting their own ice and food. Since our indoor freezer is a bottom pull-out, they can get into it easily. We also have an upright freezer in the garage. We had one week where a freezer was left open three times. This alarm has helped tremendously. We are using both sensors in the two freezers. They come pre-programmed with min/max settings, one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer. It is very simple to change those settings though and the directions were clear. I really like that it has a fifteen-minute delay before the alarm sounds. That is, the temperature has to be above the set point for 15 minutes before the alarm is triggered. That feature prevents false alarms when a 3-year old is having trouble deciding which ice cube is the perfect one for his juice. I wish I had known that for freezer use you need to use lithium batteries (AA) as they work at lower temperatures versus alkaline. We didn't have any on hand and so had to wait to install the units. Extra trips to the store are a pain and I would have just ordered 4 (2 for ea) when I bought the unit if I had known.
Chaney Monitor August 25, 2007 The Mile-High City (Denver, CO) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Purchased to monitor 2 freezers that are 60 feet apart. Though the manufacturer says that the display can be as far as 100 feet from the sensors I find that with intervening walls and doors the distance is reduced to about 40 feet. Found a convenient location half-way between both freezers and all works well. A great temperature monitoring system that can be used to monitor 2 freezers, 2 refrigerators or 1 of each.
You WILL need a lithium battery for the freezer November 3, 2007 Tim Brannon (Dallas, TX United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have the receiver unit about 15 feet away from the senders in the refrigerator/freezer. I tried it about 45 feet and it did NOT work. The freezer transmitter did require a lithium battery from Radio Shack before it worked, but this should be expected.
works pretty well, but I wish they'd told me a few things February 4, 2008 Chef Leo (Maryland, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I lost a freezer full of food recently when my freezer conked out temporarily. I searched the Net and came up with this device, which seemed reasonably priced. It's set up in my kitchen, with the fridge perhaps 10 feet away and the freezer right underneath the wall where I mounted the display, so no problem with getting data at a distance. However, I didn't know that the freezer sensor would need lithium batteries, so I had to go out and get them, and they ain't cheap. Then, for some unexplained reason, I get error readings from the fridge thermometer once or twice a day, though it always returns to normal. If not for these flaws, I'd have given it five stars. It should still serve its intended purpose, though, and give me warning when my freezer or fridge does something flaky.
Why a title? July 22, 2007 Linda Marchesini (Pensacola, FL USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
For the most part, the wireless sensors are accurate but some of the time we get errors on more than one. I purchased 12 of these for the skilled nursing facility I work for. So when we get errors we have to reset them by taking out the batteries. Didn't know I would need lithium batteries for the freezer sensor (they are expensive!) but other than those two things, I'm satisfied.
