I'm very familiar with Vornado products and have been using one of their room humidifiers and one of their quiet room heaters for 5 years or more. Vornado is a manufacturer that designs and renders things the right way. The Vornado 630B 3 Speed Mid Size Air Circulator does the work of much larger fans but with a minimum of noise. I know this to be a fact since a short time ago my wife bought two other well known fans at a local store and brought them home. The vornado moves as much air as the other brands Large "Industrial" use fan and obviously at a much quieterlevel. I literally had to turn on the "closed captioning" on my tv when the other brand was running in the farthest back room! And obviously not enjoying much of the fan effect from so far away. The Vornado sits slightly to one side of our entertainment center and about 6 feet away from the user. You can use it on low and it's whisper quiet with a nice directed air pattern. The Vornado 630B 3 Speed Mid Size Air Circulator is adjustable of course, not only three different speeds but it can be aimed in a very wide range of direction including straight up for general room circulation. There are no knobs to tighten and you can accomplish the easy adjustment with a gentle push or pull in the direction needed. The fan is also easily cleaned of dust since the blade cover comes off the fins can be wiped down with just a damp cloth, cover replaces easily without tools and after plugging back in , you're up and running quickly.
I also found that the price was just a few dollars difference from the less versatile fan and the Vornado that is ideal. That to me more than justifies the price. We took the other fan back and have happily been using our Vornado product since.

It does work as advertised... unlike normal fans, which have to be blowing on you to work, Vornados send a tight "beam" of air all the way across the room, creating a pleasant breeze everywhere, not just in front of the fan. In fact, sitting directly in front of one of these fans is not always comfortable... the wind is very strong!
Although this fan is physically modest in size, it really does work well for a medium-sized room. We use it in our family room as a ceiling fan alternative, and it is perfect.
Although it is more expensive than the el-cheapo fans sold in most stores, keep in mind that it is actually manufactured in the US, not some Chinese sweatshop.

This fan is great! I bought it for my daughter's un-airconditioned college dorm room that was sweltering in September in the Southern U.S. This fan can really move the air and it is really quiet for sleeping. The competitive brands can't touch it. Don't buy an imitation. This is the real deal and worth every penny!

This fan isn't as silent in operetion as I used to think of Vornado. By the way, they are not made exclusively in USA anymore they do them in China now. It is not quite even on slowest speed. Vornado good humidifiers, as for fans I am not sure right now.

Hey no doubt about it... when these things are new, they absolutely move air better than anything around. But... (you knew one was coming, didn't you) they are not built to last. Over time, their maximum speed just gets slower and slower. Eventually they just give out (very true of the small and midsize units, much less so for the larger ones). So while I'm a fan of the Vornado fans, I cannot recommend them without reservation. If money is no object, by all means go ahead. Just know that in 3-4 years, you WILL be replacing it (or putting in the pile to Goodwill). If you're on a budget, I'd say you need to look elsewhere. Fans should last 10 years minimum in my book. These don't. Wish things were different.
