Amazon.com Review
This is what a miter saw ought to be: accurate, sturdy, powerful, versatile, user-friendly and packed full of cool features.

If we had to choose a favorite aspect, it would have to be the handle. It's vertical. It's horizontal. And it's a couple of other things in between. It locks quickly and easily into any of four positions, so both lefties and righties have complete comfort and control.

This saw is beefy -- it weighs in at 55 pounds and it's got a nice, wide footprint that promises the ultimate stability, and sliding extensions bring your support area to 37-1/4 inches. If you're in the market for a stand for this saw as well, we like both the Bosch TracRac as well as the DeWalt DW723.

The dual bevel is a great feature, swinging 47 degrees left and 46 degrees right, with positive bevel stops at 31.6 and 33.9 degrees for flawless crown molding cuts. For miter cuts, the blade swings an impressive 52 degrees left and 60 degrees to the right. There's even a micro-fine adjustment here, letting you override a detent by as much as 2 degrees. Now that's precision.

We absolutely love the fence on this saw - Bosch calls it a Speed-track sliding fence - because it's a full 4 inches tall and has a beautifully readable inch-scale on it. It's perfect for crown molding, handling pieces up to 6 inches wide when angled against the fence.

We're suddenly rethinking our earlier statement about our favorite feature on this saw; on second thought, it might well be that all the controls - including the bevel lever - are up front. We're pretty tired of reaching around a saw body to set a bevel, so this is a most welcome upgrade. Adjustments are so much faster and easier, and all the scales are right up front, too.

Capacities are generous, thanks to the slide, with a max cut of a 2-by-12 at a 45-degree bevel and 3-5/8 by 12 inches when the blade is upright.

And yes, this saw has a laser cutting guide, but unless you really want one, we wouldn't let that sway a decision on this saw one way or the other. It's a nice feature if you're likely to use it, but most of us woodworkers prefer to get a visual on exactly where that blade meets the wood.

In all, this is a beauty of a saw, with features you aren't going to find on other saws in its class. And we still can't pick our favorite between the handle and the up-front controls. It's all good. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste

2 out of 5 stars My Experience with the Bosch 4410L   May 24, 2005

For starters, please pay close attention to several reviews of the Bosch 4410 (which is essentially the same saw minus the laser) by professional finish carpenters. It is true that everybody has biases, but overall, if the pros don't like it, chances are you won't in the long run.

I picked up my Bosch 4410L at the freight depot on the way to the job-site one morning a couple weeks ago. It arrived in great condition - thanks Amazon! I was excited to try out my new saw. Well, I have to say that despite all the great design concepts that the Bosch has, its actual performance fell far short of expecations. This 500.00 saw was not nearly as accurate as my 199.00 RIDGID chop saw! The cuts were wavy, probably due to the issues noted in some of the other reviews. For fine trim work, this saw is unacceptable, which is a shame because I really liked some of the features. I sent the Bosch back the next day and got a Hitachi C10FSH. I'm glad I did.

1 out of 5 stars 'ACCURACY' is a missing word for this saw !   March 16, 2005

Well, I was all excited that Bosch came with Laser on their new saw but this saw is something you want to avoid if you want perfection and accuracy. I checked the cuts/angles with Incra angles / squares and found that this saw needs major Quality control.

No matter what you do, blade does not cut straight and then you will realize that all the gadgets, this saw comes with it, are worthless since you cannot make this saw make True 90 degree cuts.

I have spent almost 2 days trying to figure out what can be wrong and then I realized that there was a problem with arbor. Fence had some issues to make true 90 degrees cuts.

Laser on this saw is a joke !. It is mounted on arbor on left side so you have to guess where it will cut. There will be always a gap of 0.1" or more between actual cut and laser line.
Why the heck then I need a laser ????.

In short, Avoid this saw and I am very disappointed with this Bosch machine. Do not read reviews in magazines since first look and feel is very impressing but check the angles and you will realize that this machine needs Quality control.

Dust bag is another issue since it accumulates only 20% dust and 80% dust is out of bag.

Blade is OK but I changed it to Freud Ultra fine finish and was getting much much better cuts.

I am not sure why some magazines gave such a good review but take my advise, stick with makita or dewalt and don't get impressed by reviews or all the gadgets this saw has since 'ACCURACY' is a missing word here with this saw .

Avoid this Saw !

5 out of 5 stars very very nice   January 8, 2006

I consider myself to be an intermediate woodworker. Using various joints including dovetails, mitres, and other multifaced joints in my work. I bought the 4410l to do a house full of baseboard and some crown moulding and am very pleased with the performance of this saw. Right out of the box, which arrived in only 4 days, the saw produced machinist square cuts and absolutely "light tight" crown cuts. ALL angles came dead accurate from the factory. The laser is just a wow factor and the dust collection isn't the greatest but the cuts this slider makes are a thing of beauty and ease, even with the supplied blade. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews about accuracy with this unit. I have the 10" Bosch contractors saw and its performance was what led me to this sliding mitre saw, Bosch was up to the task again. Fit,finish, upfront controls, the micro fine adjustment was wonerful on the crown cuts,...all great. This is good saw and I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars dont believe the negative reviews - this is one excellent tool   February 22, 2006

i was dissapointed to read the negative reviews by others regarding this great tool. i am replacing a makita ls 1013 saw with this one, i have been using the makita brutally for about five years (finish work, cabinets, framing) - it has been great but i was never satisfied with how difficult it was to square the fence to the blade - the adjustment always needed to re re-adjusted; the dual slides became very dirty and difficult to operate and the miter pivot got clogged a lot.

i am impressed with the quality of features and the thoughtfulness of the levers, guages, etc. on the bosch 4410. i really like the way the motor is placed up behind the blade, keeping it out of the way. the saw has tons of power - scary power really. i had heard that there was a lot of plastic on the bosch saws - not so. there is of course some - but most everything is quality machined aluminum - very nice. most of the knobs and pins are coated with a plastic or rubber. all the controls are up front and very intuitive. i really like the operational instructions on a sticker on the saw - very easy to follow. the fact that the two extension wings slide out from the base of the saw is really nice - i was always hunting for those bar supports on the makita.

the saw came securely boxed wrapped in a durable plastic sheet. cut perfectly the first time. i love the high level of visability to either side of the blade and the pivoting top handle is a nice addition.

in short, i could not be more pleased with the quality, function, accuracy and finish of this saw. i tested the squareness of the blade - it was dead on right out of the box. I love the micro adjust feature as well - beats a hammer and a block of wood.

the folks at bosch have really produced a quality machine that i am sure will last for years to come.

if i could give it six stars i would. again, dont be swayed by the negative reviews - i am not sure where that came from...

3 out of 5 stars Too Much Hype for a Low Quality Product   February 24, 2006

Before purchasing my Makita LS1013 and LS1013L sliders, I did do a lot of research on what saw I was going to buy. I did purchase the dw718, it has a nice concept, but falls way short of what it is supposed to be! This saw was another contender for my pocket book. Anyway, after borrowing a new one from my friend to try out I have to say, I am glad I NEVER purchased this saw!

Why? Well here is the why! Out of the box the bevels were out, so I fixed that in a hour or so with no issues (one should never be afraid to recalibrate their saw-even if you spend 500 dollars or more, they are made by man and nothing is perfect! If is isn't out, hurray; if it is, take the time to fix it!) Firstly, as compared to proven saws out there (ls1013, c10fsh, dw708), the head slop is just too much. Dewalt and Bosch must have worked together on this part, they both (de718 / 4410L) suffer too much head slop. The four position handle (by the way, Bosch, prides itself on making ergonomic tools) while nice, is too plasticy and needs to be better attached to the powerhead. The buttons used to move the (four position) handle are easily broken, and if broken the repair bill will be too much. The fact that I have all the controls up front seems nice, but with too many moving parts it is bound to fail. Note the bevel lock lever had to be adjusted so it wasn't so tight to operate, once the tool cover was off (behind the saw), I adjusted it properly! Ever wonder why DeWalt, Makita, or Hitachi have not done the same type of non-sense. It is not due to patent issues, they realized long ago that a saw is proven thru simplicity, not hype and gadgets! They are smart enough to realize that simple will simply outlast complex mechanics. Too many moving parts is just more money to spent in the long run when it breaks down!

The mitre scale is physically cast into the base, just looking at it and you wonder how can one finely adjust odd mitres, when the mitre lines are literally a 16th of an inch wide! That means that lines are too thick. The micro works but, for the time it takes to dial-in the correct mitre, it is just easier to use the main mitre lock knob and dial it in yourself! The detents (also machined into the based are nice and large, but the large mitre pin that engages the aluminum, is made of PLASTIC! While I used the saw, it was very accurate on the mitres (but since the main mitre pin is plastic, how can it hold accuracy in the longterm?--steel is better!) Again, such ingenuity questions quality. The detent override feature works flawlessly. Yet, what is more weird is why the main mitre pin is plastic, and the micro-adjust knob is steel. The one you use more is cheaper made than the one you use the least; the more used should be made better (am I wrong for thinking too logically here!) More to wear out and gradually and replace! Why does only Bosch use plastic for their mitre pin? Hmmmmmm..........

Bosch has seemed to fix their arbour issue with newer generations of this model, however, the laser marker that came with mine, only lights up the left kerf of the blade. This is true for all models, now what if I want to bring the laser on the other side; well you can't! Every other major laser system allows left and right, not Bosch. As a note, Bosch and Ridgid use the same style of laser system (a mercury centrifugal force switch). The tool less, built-in saw extensions are nice, but compared to Makita, are too shallow! At least Makita makes their 7 inches deep (from the fence); no one has that feature except Makita!

Since the RPM is 4800, Makita is like 3700, the Bosch noise is deafening; but, the power is nice for a belt driven saw. Direct drives are still more powerful. The slides are nice and smooth and the fence is high. I do really like the high fence and the built in ruler (it is cast into the fence); this is nice to help measure rough pieces for framing for example! They slide nice and provide ideal support for crown moulding. The mitre swing is huge, more than 110 degrees (52 left, 60 right). I really like how there are many handles by which to grab and carry the saw; the cord wrap on the slides is handy too. Dust collection is good, but not great; way better than the dw718 that's for sure! The blade that comes with it is good enough for most tasks. Put a Ridge Carbide rs-1000 (80 tooth) blade on your saw, and see how well your saw will perform!

Overall, nicely thought out machine, but the for the fact that it has too much plastic; and Bosch forgot the little things that allow a slider to be consistent, it is a saw that I would not purchase. I will give Bosch credit, there saw's mitre scale and bevel are very accurate (just keep checking it for accuracy)! For those who own it, take care of it, and keep checking the saws accuracy on a consistent basis (bevels and mitres). Even if yours is fine out of the box, one should still check it. My Makita is checked weekly (I make furniture part time), and I find that it holds its accuracy impeccably, but I guess I am too fussy! Which is good in some respects because the saw does not need to be recalibrated a 10th of what the Bosch needs to. So the Bosch does have some features, but for the long term it will NOT hold up. Take care!!!...
