Collector's Item November 28, 2007 M. Snyder (Las Vegas, NV, USA) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
This is a great item for a Transformer's fan, but defiantly not for someone who intends to use this to actually play chess. Each piece has the symbol of the chess piece it represents, but it does become a bit of a hassle to constantly check which piece is what short of memorizing which transformer represents each piece. The pieces are a sort of soft plastic material, and the whole set has a smell of spray paint. Again, great collectors item, but not recommended for those who wish to play chess with this chess set.
Great for Transformer and Chess Fans November 26, 2007 L. LEBOUEF (South Louisiana USA) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
We used this as an incentive for my 9-yr-old to get straight A's on his report card. He did it and couldn't wait for it to come in. I ordered it ahead of time and was able to give it to him the evening he got his report card. He (and my husband) love it.
Great for young new learners December 16, 2007 K. Hendrix (Dallas, TX) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am using this game to teach my 6 year old how to play chess. I needed a set that would spark his interest in the game. He is doing well on learning how to play because he loves the Transformers and the "good guys" versus the "bad guys". After one game he was able to remember how most of the pieces move. We do have to constantly look at the symbols on the pieces to figure out what they represent because the figures that the game uses are in no way representative of the traditional pieces. However, I do think that this is still a good starter set for new young players. I figure that once my son really knows how to play, we will get him a set with traditional pieces.
beware of pewter-like December 20, 2007 Steve Garrison (moline) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i liked this chess board so much that i bought it for my 10 year old nephew because the pieces were said to be pewter-like... they were plastic, that is clearly not pewter-like... other than that i believe it is a wonderful set to play with...
gift for my brother January 7, 2008 Jessica N. Norton (North Plains or) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My brother is a die hard transformer fan and he loves to play chess so i thought this would be a great gift. the only down fall i have to this product is 2 things. 1. The plastic smell that seems to linger that we hope eventually will go away 2. the peices are hard to read. we got this so he could teach his girlfriend and its difficult to tell what peice is what. I recommend this game for more of a collecters item then one to use.
