I called the company and they assured me that all Melissa and Doug toys are painted with non toxic paint and that they test often.

These blocks are great and look exactly as they do in the photos.
Less is more, in the toy world January 9, 2007 Writer Mom (Auburn, AL United States) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Of all the high-tech gadgets my kids got during Christmas, the toy they kept going back to was these blocks and another little block village set that I bought to go along with this one. Even the 13-year-old son of a friend got involved. Good toy that will keep interest!

Not to be paranoid, but noticed these were made in China. Have these been tested for lead paint?
Paint comes off....is it lead? November 15, 2007 Mom2BE (Mckinney TX) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased this after reading the good reviews. I normally like Melissa & Doug quality. However, these blocks have some issues. The paint comes off. It will come off on your tables, walls etc if the child rubs the block on a hard surface. They are fine to play with on carpet, but it's kind of hard to stack blocks on carpet. I let my son use the lid of a big storage container to build on & it is marked with paint from the blocks. I am just hoping M&D tested these for lead. My kids are past the oral stage, but I still watch them with these blocks to make sure they don't go in their mouths. The second problem is my children just aren't interested in them at ages 3 & 1.5. I dump them out, they play with them for 1 minute & walk away. I am going to try Lincoln logs next :) Every child is different with interests, so I can't really fault the toy. Still this toy was not a hit here & will be sold at yardsale
