Product Description * Star Wars - Episode III Revenge of the Sith Basic Lightsaber Gray Handle / Red Blade. * Roleplay your way into galactic adventure with this lightsaber replica that extends with a flick of the wrist! * Ages 4 & up.
Editorial Review Take on villains across the galaxy--well, at least around the neighborhood--with this Star Wars lightsaber from Hasbro. With black ridges and other intricate details, the toy's massive, silver-colored handle won't win any ergonomics awards, but it does look authentic--like what you'd see in the movie. To extend the red, telescopic blade, just press the red button with your thumb and flick your wrist. The result is a little underwhelming, given the size of the handle--though, presumably, if the blade were much longer, kids might be poking each other in the eye, or knocking over the lamp. Once extended, the blade is pretty darn solid; in fact, it takes some effort to retract it again. The saber also features a handy belt clip. --Andy Boynton

Best Value, Durable, Better than Electronic Models June 1, 2005 christinemm (Connecticut, United States) 35 out of 37 found this review helpful
We are very happy with the non-battery operated line of Hasbro lightsabres and we own four different models. We had first purchased the battery operated light sabers and were not happy with them. If you are interested in my review of those different, more expensive toys, see those items to find my review. The red lightsabres are used by characters on the Dark Side. The Jedi/good side characters use blades which are blue, green or purple. These less expensive and more durable light sabers are my children's favorites and preferred by my husband and I for these reasons: a. They are more lightweight than the electronic models and therefore are easier to carry and easier to grip/hold with one hand. b. The blades fully retract into the handle (just like they do in the movies---the electronic models don't do this) and they LOCK in the closed position so they don't fall open while carrying or wearing them. c. The lock is easy to operate; you hold it down and flick the blade to extend the "laser blade". d. When flicking it open, it takes just one quick flick to extend the blade completely open, and even children aged 4 can do this with one flick after a few practices. e. It closes very easily. My children prefer to push it (gently) into the ground or into the floor to close it. f. The built in clip works well to clip the closed unit onto the waistband of the pants, a pants pocket or a belt. Due to good design of the locking mechanism, the unit stays closed/retracted while worn in this manner. g. The lack of electronic components and light bulbs allows for rougher play and not worrying about breakage while using it in lightsabre to lightsabre clashing together play.' h. You won't have to replace light bulbs that can break in rough play (as the other models have). i. There are no sensitive electronic components to break if it accidentally gets wet or left outside and is rained on. j. At this low price we can afford to buy a couple of extras for visiting children to play with. k. All of the blade lengths are of equal length allowing for safer play (unlike the electronic models). Love this toy, but rated educational value as 1 as truly there is not much educational about this toy. I have no problem with this being non-educational, though, as my children have other venues to expand their education! Imaginative play is very important for children as is "unstructured free play time" and this falls into that category.

Okay, the first thing I am going to say is this toy is a big plastic stick. The toy does not light up, make sounds, and is way too short. Grown-ups like me can't fight together you know what I mean right? The toy is very durable but, like I said, it is way too short and does'nt do anything cool. For 13 dollars more you can get a LIGHT -UP LIGHTsaber that grown-ups and kids can play with! So parents out there buying toys, I rest my case. P.S... Don't forget to judge this review!!!
Best lightsaber ever! April 11, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Wow! I thought my electronic sabers were cool! I bought my sister and I one (mine red, hers blue) and we just exploded over these! They're very durable, rectract fully, easy to open and withdraw, and can clip on your belt! We dueled and dueled, until we were too exhausted from the fun! I have this big black cape with a hood so I can dress up like the Sith Lord to add even more fun. My sister and I played Star Wars for 3 hrs! My sister thought it was 20 minutes because we had so much fun! The electronic ones are pretty durable and great for Halloween, but not very durable for extreme fighting, and continuous at that. My saber (or my sister's) haven't gotten a single scratch since I bought these bad boys. My electronic lightsabers have plenty of scratches and marks, and one has a dent at the top. Overall, these things are inexpensive, and ultimate play fighters! May the force be with you. (It's snowing, and it's giving me ideas...)

Basic Is BETTER! April 16, 2005 Darth Rondard (Dark Jedi Temple) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
As I have stated previously, I believe all the basic lightsabers are superior to the flashy and fragile light up siblings. These things can take a beating and are perfect for role playing since they lock, release with a button, clip on to anything, like a pocket, pants seam, or a belt, and they look VERY realalistic. I am VERY impressed with the Anakin Skywalker style basic lightsabers. They are almost a replica. And they pack the original trilogy's design. :: Drools :: This item is one of the best things you can give a Star Wars junkie, besides a trip to Star Wars rehab. The only minor complaint I have is the grip, it is a little large. But if you can tolerate that, this is THE product for you. Two thumbs up here. |,,,, |,,,,
