yo ho ho! super fun pirate toy! May 30, 2007 L. Bieber (Columbus, OH United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
My daughter (age 4.5) received this for Christmas after admiring it at her cousin's house for over a year and asking for it every time she saw it in stores. Since then she has played with it over and over again and totally loves it. Please don't let the other comment on this sway you, I don't know what that person is talking about. This is similar to other Melissa and Doug toys, which I think are very durable, quality, classic products. Your child will have a blast pretending to be a pirate, counting the "gold" and hiding secret treasures in the secret compartment at the bottom of the chest. You don't need a lot of bells and whistles to have very fun, imaginitive play. I highly recommend this over all the new Pirates of the Caribbean branded products which shouldn't even be marketed to children in the first place (hello, it's a grown-up movie!) - this product is much more appropriate for young children. Make yourself a newspaper hat and have some old fashioned fun with this great toy!!!
ARG!! Great toy! June 13, 2007 Sunset (Midwest, USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
My 3 and 8 year old boys love this treasure chest. It is heavy, very sturdy and well constructed. The skull latch pivotes to side to release lock, and it is easy enough for my 3-year-old to operate easily. Inside the chest is a slightly raised bottom with three planks of wood; the middle plank can be removed to access the secret compartment. The fabric flag and eye patch are substantial enough. The plastic coins are heavy, thick, well-made and deeply imprinted with a skull. The chest is large enough to hide other objects. I like to fill it with different things and have them go on a treasure hunt. Measure approx. 9.5" wide, 6.5" deep, 7.25" tall.
if there were zero stars...... February 15, 2007 Jennifer covey (cleveland, ohio) 5 out of 14 found this review helpful
This pirate chest is a total rip off. The chest is cheaply made and the contents inside are minimal. When I ordered it as a gift for someone, they sent me someone else's order....then refused to let me return my item for a refund when I finally received it. The company was very rude and not helpful in the mix up at all.

I gave this toy to my nephew for Christmas. He was very happy. He even tried to bury it in the backyard.
So ye be needin' a treasure chest to stash yer pirate booty... June 28, 2007 L. E. Eastman (USA) We bought this item for my 5-year-old niece, who is obsessed with pirates. Captain Jacklyn Sparrow talked like a pirate for three days straight after she opened her present. She carries the chest with her everywhere, and she especially likes the "secret compartment." An excellent toy for imaginative play.
