A nice rock set. June 10, 2006 Mom of four (Seattle, WA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
This rock set is really nice in that they give you more ideas about what you can do with the rocks than most kits do. I get really tired of earth science kits that only have you do streak tests and compare hardness and so forth. We really liked hitting the rocks together and causing the spark, though my son was not coordinated enough to do it and it took me a bit to get it to work. Some of the other experiemnts were really neat too. Value-wise, I wish they included more rocks and experiments for the price. I have bought rock kits for this price that had twice as many rocks, but didn't have anywhere near as cool of experiements. Also, I wish the geode was larger. It was really nice inside though.

My grandson was hoping to get this product for his birthday so when he received it, he was anxious to start. Since that time he spends hours learning and experimenting with all sorts projects. It was all he had hoped for and more - challenging and rewarding for an 8 year old.
Thanks, reviewers! June 8, 2007 A. Hartley (Miami, FL) On your recommendation, I bought this rock collection for my 6-year-old daughter. It is a great beginner's set. She loves the "TV rock," enjoyed cracking open the geode, and amazed by the quartz as it sparked (more like glowed) in our dark closet. It isn't a big collection, this is true, but we added our own rocks to the empty spaces in the plastic box. Also, I have to thank the company. They sent us a duplicate shipment, but when I offered to return the second one, they told us to keep it. Thanks from some very happy customers!
