My one year old LOVES this toy, and so do I... March 13, 2005 Memphis Mom (Memphis, TN USA) 117 out of 117 found this review helpful
I went to Toys R Us to buy the plain Naturally Playful sandbox because I wanted one large enough to fit 2 children it it at one time, and some of the other boxes just seemed too small. When I got to the store this item was on sale for just $20.00 more than the one I originally planned to purchase. I was a little concerned about the sandbox capacity since the dimensions for the sandbox portion were not specifically listed at the store, so a staff person let me go along into the stock room to get a peek inside the box to get a better idea. It looked close enough for me, and so for only an additional $20.00 I got not only a sandbox, but also a picnic table for 4 and a cute little umbrella to provide much needed shade. I also bought the 300 lbs of sand that Step 2 recommends for this product- expect to pay an additional $30.00 for sand (which is really nice coarse sand by the way) if you get it there. You will need either a pick-up truck, a larger suv or van to take this item home. It fit sort of angled into the back of our chevy s-10, and all 6 of those bags of sand took up a little room as well. Don't plan to pick this up in your honda. When we got it home it was very easy to get out of the truck (only 50 lbs) and out of the box as well. It went together in less than 10 minutes with a good drill to put the screws in- there are 10 of them and the holes are not pre-drilled, but it is pretty obvious where they are to go. We dumped in all six bags of sand, stuck the umbrella in the stand and in jumped my child. He had no difficulty getting in or out of the sandbox and has PLENTY of room in there for himself as well as a friend. (The dimensons of that part are something close to 3ftx4ft in an oval). The table is a great height and it is easy for him to get seated because he can swing his legs right in from the sides and not have to climb over like some other tables. The little umbrella fits down into the hole nicely- but be warned, if you get a lot of gusty wind in your area you might want to figure out a way to secure it down a little better. The end has a sharp plastic point on it (like a beach umbrella) and we had a gust of around 30+ mph that pulled it out of the table and across the top of the sandbox- where my kid was playing! When not in use the umbrella will store under the lid in the sandbox with all the sand toys. The lid fits nice and snug and will keep the rain and kitty cats out of the sand, but we did put a bungee cord over it as well because of the wind in our area. The product seems really durable, like all Step 2 merchandise. I should mention that it could also double as a swimming pool (it has a drain that can be plugged and unplugged) or large planter when the kids outgrow it.
tons of fun February 14, 2005 Mary Johnson (O'fallon, Il) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
This sand box is great! I wish I had bought it sooner!! My daughter is 2 and she would play in it all day if I let her!! It's very durable and easy to put together! I love the fact that it has a hard top lid to keep out animals.
Great outdoor fun!! March 10, 2005 Erin Faulkner (Simi Valley, CA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
We bought this item for out daughter's second birthday to give her more to do in the backyard. She loves to sit and play in the sand for as long as we will let her and the umbrella helps keep her out of the sun on hot days. It was very easy to put together and the cover is nice so that critters can't "play" in her sand.
5 Star Buy! April 29, 2005 A Reader (USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
We are so happy with this purchase! The sandbox is sturdy and easily fits two toddlers with room to spare (more if they are willing to sit on the sides). We only put 3 bags of sand, and it's decent but we're going back to get more. Having the picnic table with umbrella attached is SUCH a nice feature. You can have lunch and playtime all at once, and it accommodates more children. 4 toddlers easily fit on the bench and seem comfy. Being low to the ground, makes it safe seating too. We're thrilled overall! Note: When we first put it together, the lid didn't fit all the way down; so we placed a heavy item on top for the first week to get it to the right shape. Now it fits well and keeps the rain and animals out. :)
Thanks for nothing. May 10, 2005 C. Elder (TX) 15 out of 37 found this review helpful
Toys R Us, how do you stay in business? You advertise toys and claim to offer them, but when someone wants to go buy one, it isn't in stock in any of the 13 DFW metroplex locations. So I should just order it online and pay $80 in shipping, right? Is that what you are saying? That I shouldn't bother visitng your stores because your stores are not properly stocked. And further more that you are not concerned with the inflated shipping rates and whether or not an ordinary family can afford to pay them. VERY VERY VERY dissapointed.
