5 out of 5 stars The Best Bathtub Crayons Available   March 20, 2001

These are, without a doubt, the BEST bathtub crayons available (and we've tried all brands!) The pigment is vibrant, and they even color under water. It doesn't matter if they get wet...they still work (unlike other bathtub crayons). These 'click' up to expose fresh crayon, and do NOT dissolve in water. Clean up is easy with the provided duck sponge (and when my husband is in charge of bathtime, and forgets to clean the tub, I can testify that they do, indeed, wash off without staining the tub!) I can't recommend these crayons enough to other parents...our toddler loves them and has become quite the bathtime artist. A great gift for friends too!

5 out of 5 stars Better than Crayola   September 28, 2006

Someone gave these to us when my son was 9 months old. He loved holding them and it has been fun watching him learn to "color" and develop his hand-eye coordination. He is now 22 months old and we've just used them up and I had to buy the Crayola tub crayons because I couldn't find these at Toys R Us. The Crayola crayons are thinner (which doesn't hold up as well to toddler abuse) and have more colors, but I like these better because they come with the ducky sponge to wash the crayon off the walls (my son loves that part, too). These crayons are a surefire way to get my son into the bathtub.

4 out of 5 stars Nice crayons   January 14, 2007

My 20 month old son loves these crayons -- they color well, clean up easily and don't dissolve. However, the crayons keep falling out of the plastic holders. This bothers me more than it does my son.

1 out of 5 stars Messy!   December 17, 2007

I have been given 2 boxes of these crayons for my 3 and 5 year old sons. The boys LOVED them...I did not. They actually do stain some tubs (both of mine). The marks eventually come off with a good deal of scrubbing. The little ducky sponge helps but in my personal opinion the after clean up effort makes the fun the boys have with these crayons less than desirable.

If you are looking for REAL kid fun in the tub I'd go with the Crayola color dots! The can comes with 3 different color pellets. By mixing 2 pellets into the tub water a child can see how 2 colors create a new color. Colors are vibrant and even change bubble bath bubbles to their color. MUCH easier to clean up and just as much fun.

2 out of 5 stars Really Wait Until Child 2 or 3 Years   January 19, 2008

I'm surprised this item has gotten such good reviews. I bought these on a whim the other day and brought them home for my 16-month old. She is getting a little bored in the bath, and I thought this would be a fun way to engage her more during bathtime. (We bathe every night as part of her bedtime ritual, and she seems to tire of all the bath toys we buy after only a month or so.) There were two major problems with the crayons: first, like another reviewer noted, the crayons do not stay in the holder on their own. When you tip them to draw, the crayons slide right out. Second, woe betide you if your child manages to get one in his/her mouth. Daddy was bathing that night, so maybe he wasn't as vigilant as Mama would've been watching her in the tub (although he is on his knees in front of the tub the entire bath; this I know with 100% certainty, but perhaps he was looking at where he was washing instead of her mouth at the time). Regardless, my daughter got the crayon in her mouth for literally 2-3 seconds and the entire crayon dissolved. This was understandably a very scary moment, as there was no information on the package regarding toxicity or safety precautions if the contents were swallowed. Not even a manufacturer phone number to call with questions. Poison control said they were not toxic, which you might assume in the absence of any toxicity warnings. BUT when your child has just swallowed a large amount of something, you want information immediately available, dang it! I believe that the second problem is related to the first because if the crayon were to remain stuck inside the holder as designed, a child couldn't eat, say, 2/3 of the crayon in one bite. I know... there's no substitute for parental supervision, and my child was under the recommended age. Believe me, I'm not one of these "There should be a warning label on that chainsaw!!"-type people, but the product just wasn't what I expected. However, this was my first experience with bathtub crayons, so maybe I thought they'd be more like normal crayons and not spontaneously incinerate with a single drop of human saliva. :)
