2 out of 5 stars Have to disagree   June 20, 2008

.... with the rest of the fine folks here. What in the world happened to my Grey's? Seriously. What story line? This season was just tragic. Meredith and Derrick, Derrick and Meredith BLAH!!!!!! I wanted to slit MY wrists! Derrick and Rose, Meredith and Derrick kill people, Ava, Rebecca, Ava CYBILL whoever she is. What's with that??!?! Izzie...... I mean really - what story line??? The best she had all year was the pregnant AIDS lady. ONE and I mean 1 marriage seemed to be going okay - Tuck and Bailey and now they can't keep it together.

This was a season full of smut and sleeping around - worse than any season has been. We watched Christina get totally screwed over all season. Addison came in as a breath of fresh air only to leave again. Izzie and George??? Really? Callie and Hahn - forget about it. Just smut..... ridiculous smut. It's as though the writers never planned for the show to succeed and therefore used all their story lines in the first couple of seasons - so now we have Melrose Place in a hospital. It's just disappointing.

Bailey and Christina were about the only reason I stuck around and now that's not even cutting it. LOVE I mean LOVE this show but this season was about as confusing and nonsensicle as this review. So where are we now? George is the Chief's little #$%@&. Hahn and Callie.... huh??? Christina has been pansey-fied and been used to mop up the floor. Izzie - well.... did nothing all season but save a deer and take over the free clinic. The Chief - whined all year and finally got back with his wife. Meredith sought counseling and is now "fixed" and ready to be with Derrick......... again. McSteamy - still a horny #$$ but woth morals now?? I just didn't get it. It was once a great show with a terrific cast and an excellent plot line. Now it's nearly R rated fluff with a story thrown in to pass the time in between sheet scenes. It's turned into a really really bad B-rated Porno written by a college freshman for film class. Sorry but it's an opinion. I want my Grey's back.

5 out of 5 stars Much Improved Season After Lack-Luster Season 3   May 18, 2008

Season Four picks up in quality where the show dropped off during the third season. Grey's gets its groove back in a year that re-integrates the brilliant comedic writing and satisfying (yet not over-the-top) dramatic storylines that drew us to this show during the first two seasons.
The departure of Addison Montgomery at the end of season three was particularly saddening as her character added so much to the series. However, the new characters in season four introduce some fascinating unchartered territory for Shonda Rhimes to deal with. Erica Hahn, played by Brooke Smith, adds an interesting dynamic to the season as she replaces Burke as Seattle Grace's Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Her presence threatens Cristina Yang's ego and even has one characters questioning their sexuality. Meredith Grey's sister, Lexie (played by Chyler Leigh), also arrives at Seattle Grace and becomes a series regular in season four. Her presence lays out a potentially interesting story arch for Meredith, as she becomes the first member of her family who admires her and loves her unconditionally. For the first time, Meredith is forced to seek professional assistance in working out her personal issues- the scenes that she shares with her therapist provide some of the most entertaining material of the season.
New relationships are built, old ones crumble, and the staff at Seattle Grace is faced with challenges that deeply affect their lives in a season that reminds us of why we started watching Grey's in the first place!

5 out of 5 stars "Don't wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don't". All the amazing shades of Grey!!   June 2, 2008

Another wonderful season for Grey's Anatomy! In season 3 everything fell apart, it was about time too, for a long time everyone were being pushed to the limit and three was a season of liberation so we can have new beginings or fix what is broken. Season four was just as amazing and wonderful as the other seasons, plus everyone went about fixing what was broken, accepting what can't be changed and giving up on what is not meant to be. The writing was insightfull and at times poetic, the characters evolved and opened up more and Grey's is geting to be one of those rare kind of shows that is worthy of being elevated to the statues of a wonderful novel. Some quotes from the season to keep you going as you wait for your dvd:

Meredith: Don't wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don't. In face of what we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that make us hold it together.

Meredith: There's a little animal in all of us and maybe that's something to celebrate. Our animal instinct is what makes us seek comfort, warmth, a pack to run with. We may feel caged, we may feel trapped, but still as humans we can find ways to feel free. We are each other's keepers, we are the guardians of our own humanity and even though there's a beast inside all of us, what sets us apart from the animals is that we can think, feel, dream and love. And against all odds, against all instinct, we evolve.

Meredith: Change; we don't like it, we fear it, but we can't stop it from coming. We either adapt to change or we get left behind. And it hurts to grow, anybody who tells you it doesn't is lying. But heres the truth: the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes change is good. Oh, sometimes change is everything.

Meredith : There's a clarity thing when you cross over the edge. There's a moment when everything just melts away and you're fearless.

Seriously? So the writer's strike was horrible for everyone. However, Grey's survived gracefully. This season was great with the original lighthearted comedy mixed in all of the drama that we fell in love with in the first season. I love this season as much as any other if not more, but we're being charged the price of a full 26 episodes for 17??? The first season only cost $19.99 and this season isn't all that much longer. Now, this may be cheap, but seriously??? Full price??? Seriously. (I'm still buying it the second it's released. It's like crack.)

If you stopped watching Grey's after season three because it started going downhill, pick it up again! It's worth it! The heart that the show had during the first two seasons is beating once again and the characters have returned to who they were before the whole third season fiasco. In the fourth season the characters get to know themselves more and we get to watch them work out things in their own ways.

George has to work with trying to accept that he has to repeat his internship and he finally stands up for himself instead of just being the guy who lets stuff happen to him. Izzie tries to find where she fits in at the hospital and how to deal with the consequences of sleeping with a married man. Christina has to not only deal with Burke's departure but how to deal with Erica Hahn who refuses to teach her and Christina finds her own way of "getting her groove back." Meredith is still hung up over McDreamy and while I am getting a little tired of the merry-go-round they seem to be on, they interact in this season in a way we haven't seen yet by working on a clinical trial together and Meredith takes a step to get over all her baggage and makes serious progress. Alex is still the same guy, a guy with a kind heart but a jackass too, and his story with Rebecca takes a very interesting turn and throughout the whole season we get a better sense of the kind of cards Alex was dealt and how he deals with what he has. Derek never really gets past being hung up over Mer, but he does try, and like before we all know where his heart really is. Miranda Bailey actually has a very interesting story line for this season and we really get to see her struggle and then learn how to balance her life with the hospital. Callie has to deal with her failed marriage and finds love in unexpected places and has her own little character arc. Mark Sloan does a little growing, but we all know he is still a man [...] deep down, but he tries making him still lovable. Chief Webber has a hard time delegating, but he does make progress.

Then on top of the old characters developing and learning to grow, we have some new ones which add even more to a great season. We have Lexie Grey, Meredith's sister, who has had to change her plans because of her mother dying last season and has to deal with a sister she never knew she had, all the while she acts as a friend for George. Then we have Ercia Hahn who adds a VERY interesting aspect to this season, one that is completely new for Grey's.

All in all, a great season and a great comeback, especially after the Writer's Strike! However, it is very true that you have to pay full price for 17 episodes which seems ridiculous and I think they are just trying to make up for all the money they lost during the Writer's Strike, but it is still unfair. Now I just have to decide if it's worth it to buy the boxed set with the extras, or buy just the episodes off iTunes.
