| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Alive with Yoga: Intermediate is a pleasant surprise, proving to be one of the best of its kind, despite some of the video's more New Age qualities (such as the appearance of a crystal in the opening credits). Lilias Folan's preliminary remarks include certain instructions--such as the importance of breathing through the nose, and moving into forward bends on the exhale rather then the inhale--that are both basic and essential to a successful practice, but rarely mentioned in other yoga videos. The practice itself includes dozens of poses: twists, forward and back bends, moves for balance, strength, and flexibility, and so on. Many are sequenced together in groups such as the "standing series" (a half-dozen basic asanas such as warrior and pyramid), the "down dog series" (requiring more strength and balance), and the "gate series" (focusing on lateral stretches, twists, and hip work). Some of it is quite challenging; indeed, newcomers would be well advised to attend a few yoga classes in person before using this or any other tape. But since that's not always possible, learning from someone as personable, knowledgeable, and nurturing as Lilias is the next best thing. --Kelly Welldon

Two versions are available March 14, 2000 C. Sahu (Southern California) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I would highly recommend this video - it's very good to use after you've been doing Lilias' "beginner" tapes for awhile. They're many of the same postures but much more strenuous, and at a quicker pace. I find the "downward dog series" is really improving my posture, which is poor after 4 c-sections.Prospective buyers should be aware that this is a 1 cassette, 60 minute tape. Also available and listed under the very same name is a 2 cassette version, 120 minutes. I think this one is just the 1st cassette, sold separately from the 2nd. I bought it and really wish I had known about the other!
Watch out, this is only one tape February 14, 2000 C. Sahu (Southern California) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This intermediate tape is the next step up from Lilias' beginner tape. Much more challenging! but I found that, after having done the exercises on the beginner's tapes, I could work with this one without too much discouragement. And I think it's actually helping my posture (which is very poor ever since I had my babies)!
Lilias' best video October 5, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't have all of Lilias' tapes yet but this is my favorite one so far. Lilias is the best instructor I've ever followed. She has a great personality and she's beautiful too. In this video she is wearing her blue leotard. The video is designed so you can watch part of it if you don't have much time or all of it if you have more time.
Lilias! Alive with Yoga: Intermediate July 28, 2005 E. K. Black (Hudson, Fl) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lilia is great and years ago I have practiced with her on the educational channel. However, I think that she rushes through the postures and does not emphasize the importance of breath and holding the pose.
She is still the best November 26, 2006 Lee Whiteside (Dwight, Illinois United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After practicing yoga for several years now Lilias was one of the first instructors I learned from. I still think that she is one of the best teachers. Lilias has a very friendly and easy nature that takes the intimidation out of learning what yoga is about. This particular tape is a 54 minute practice that is an outstanding physical workout and still one of my favorites. It might be too difficult for beginners. It is challenging in the number of asanas she takes you through and her flowing method of grouping poses togeather helps keep it interesting. There is plenty of variety in the workout with a brief warmup, standing poses, floor exercises, forward bends. I am left feeling like I just did a comprehensive and physically worthwhile workout. I use it regularly. She does not use props in this workout but a non-skid surface is helpful for the warrior, triangle and downward dog. I don't think you can learn yoga from any one tape. After all it is just a moment frozen in time on magnetic tape while life and your yoga practice should change and evolve. But Lilias is a very good teacher and this tape represents not only a good class but a good comprehensive workout.
