Amazon.com This video for teaching little ones about the potty is one of the most successful because kids can easily relate to the characters from the popular series Bear in the Big Blue House. Even though each character has a specific problem (asking for permission, fear of the unknown, bathroom etiquette), the video scores points for the gentleness and calm it communicates to kids. Bear is always upbeat and helpful, a great coach for kids. The songs are catchy too--"Potty Chair" has a rhyming scheme that goes from "underwear" to "millionaire," and there's a hysterical psychedelic '60s number. Older kids may benefit from watching as a confidence builder. By the end, the kiddies may be running to the bathroom to practice their talents, shouting, "I'm a Toileteer!" Ages 2 to 5. --Doug Thomas

The most miraculous video ever made ! January 28, 2000 M. Bond (Hopatcong, NJ) 132 out of 134 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 2 3/4 year old daughter 2 weeks ago. Shewatched it 5 or 6 times the day I got it and she had never seen"Bear in the Big Blue House" before, so she was not familier with the characters. Over the next few days she watched it once or twice a day. I bought it on a Tuesday. By Friday afternoon she wanted to put on training pants and except for nighttime she hasn't had a diaper on since ! It's absolutely amazing ! She's hardly had any accidents during the daytime and she's even waking up dry a lot of mornings. Before this wonderful video she would tell us she had to go, but she refused to go sit on the potty. I can't say enough wonderful things about this video. If you're struggling with potty training, go out and buy it today.
Teaches kids in terms they'll understand August 13, 1999 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
This is one of the cutest episodes I've seen of "Bear in the Big Blue House"! It teaches kids that going to the potty is a normal thing for them, and all creatures. This video also stresses the importance of hygiene. There are some adorable songs in this episode, and that may help children have some fun with learning to potty.Be warned: The word "poop" is used many times. Some people may not want their kids to use that word, but I personally think it is a very easy (and descriptive) word for kids to use.
I got more out of it than I expected! Maybe you will too! January 31, 2002 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
I decided to buy this DVD based on reviews that I read here. I had already purchased a potty chair many months ago which we put into our bathroom but I didn't plan on potty training my daughter (26 months old) at the moment since we just had a new addition to our family and I thought she should get used to the idea of her baby sister (2 months old) before tackling another hurdle. Also, I only put her on her potty twice and I really didn't want to start training her while the baby was still young.Well, she watched the video about 3 or 4 times. No reaction from her and no pressure from me. No big deal right? Then one morning, after watching the video she wants to go to the bathroom and sit on her potty. And then a miracle! She actual went poop into her potty! I couldn't believe my eyes! So, now we're going through the stages of potty training and all because of this video. It's great because it talks about taking time from playing to use the potty and how it's okay to have an accident. What do you have to lose? Buy the video, maybe you'll have a miracle too!
Great, especially if you are struggling with potty training November 19, 1999 32 out of 43 found this review helpful
My one complaint is before you actually get to Bear and the Big Blue House, you have to sit through sooooo many movie advertisements. When your child is eager to see Bear in the Big Blue House, all of those advertisements (approx 10 minutes) will bug them.
Great for toddlers... and their parents!!! October 19, 1999 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
My son loves Bear! Whenever he sees him he says "bear bear" And while no video replaces a parent's instruction, this video is a great tool for potty training (especially for refining skills). Very tactful and lots of fun. Talks about hand washing, using the potty in a strange place, accidents, and how "sometimes it's kind of hard to stop having fun and take the time to go to the potty." One very understanding bear!
