Amazon.com Well organized and appropriately paced, dance instructor Cal Pozo's Latin Dances includes instructions and demonstrations for the rumba, mambo, cha-cha, tango, and more. Starting with the fundamentals, Pozo does a great job of explaining the essential feel of Latin dances, or--as he calls it--the "Latin motion." Latin movement springs from the hips, and if you don't get the hips right, you won't get the dances right. Pozo spends a good deal of the tape demonstrating how to master this essential motion, aptly describing it as similar to "digging your feet right into the sand." (It's recommended that you look in a mirror as you practice this motion, so that you can feel and see how it is supposed to look.) Pozo employs his standard teaching method starting with an explanation and history of the dance, animated footprints stepping out the moves, the perspectives (front and back) of each partner, and finally, a full-out demonstration with special emphasis on position, posture, and--especially important for the tango--attitude. --Beth Massa

Not bad for beginners... September 10, 1999 57 out of 57 found this review helpful
Overall, the teaching was okay. Footprints, slow motion, and showing separate lead/follow movements make this easy for beginners. Expect to learn the basic step and one turn for each dance. Instead of this video, I recommend picking one dance you want to learn and getting a video that is more in depth. It's hard for someone starting out to learn so many dances at one time, even if one only learns the basic step. Also, they used the same awful music throughout the video even for very different dances. This makes it difficult for beginners to distinguish which dance to use for different music...that's one of the most important things to learn in dancing!

As a dance instructor I found the instruction in the tape to be poor
Great for the beginner. May 5, 1999 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Good beginning steps and routines. Great for the person who knows nothing about the dances featured. My husband has three left feet and found this tape informative.
Not all that hot December 31, 2000 Elba Smith (Clarksville, TN) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought this tape for my husband who has no idea how to latin dance and he got more out of watching the movie Dance with me than he did the tape. It is very very basic and is very brief on each style. I recommend picking a dance and getting a tape related to that style and learn that way. This is just to basic.
fun September 24, 2008 S B (Texas) I use this as an option for bonus with my students when we do a basic dance unit. I am not a dancer, but I try to expose my junior high students to some basic steps. If they want to take it further for bonus I allow them to use the videos to learn more dances. They LOVE it!
