Good for beginning dancers and good review for advanced ones February 20, 1999 77 out of 79 found this review helpful
The tape is very easy to learn from for someone that has never danced tango before. The instructor and follower shows the steps alone and together.(which I found is easier for beginners to learn from) It is a very good but slow review for more advanced dancer. There is some "flashy" steps at the end that can spice up the basic moves that are shown at the first half of the tape. The very beginning shows a dance routine to demonstrate what can be done with a Tango even though the more flashy steps are not taught in the video. Which is disapponting for the more advanced dancer but one can review the tape and disect the steps. I don't recommended this for someone that has no patients. Over all it is a very good tape for beginners but a little slow for more advanced. I give it 4 stars for beginners and as a review for advanced dancers.
Impossible to learn in minutes January 5, 2002 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
The title of this videos says "learn to dance in minutes - tango passion". Not a chance. You can't learn to dance real Tango in minutes. Besides, this video teaches ballroom tango, which is not real tango. Real tango is Argentinean tango, and it takes months to learn to dance it properly.
Not really tango January 5, 2002 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
This video does not teach real tango, but some Hollywood version or ballroom staff. The real tango is not what you see here. You must see tango from Argentina to know what real tango is. The real tango dance and real tango music.
Popular in Turkey January 17, 2002 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Maybe this video is popular in Turkey, but let's be honest. This is not what I call tango. It's some Hollywood or ballroom charicature of it. Por favor, come to Argentina to see the real thing.
A great mix of styles and a super teacher September 8, 2003 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I watched this tape through first and thought, I'll never be able to do all those steps. Well, with time and practice, my husband and I are learning to love the tango. The class is broken into three segments, with four moves each. The first two segments can be danced separately or together. The final "movie moves" segment is full of fun stuff to fool around with. Cal and his partner demonstrate the steps separately and together. We've tried the sequences with various tangoes and they work so well! It is a great deal of fun and very romantic, once you know what you are doing. A couple of the reviewers say that this is not true Argentine Tango. True, but that's not the only style there is. Cal says right up front that what he is teaching is a combination of three different tango styles. This is obviously not a tape for a competitive ballroom dancer who wants to learn only "official" moves. It's a tape for folks who just want to have a good time and get some experience with the form. Now I've ordered some "heavy duty" tango DVD's from Amazon. Cal's given us the confidence to want to continue.
