Amazon.com Go, Fatima! is cooler than a five-dollar snow cone. In this video, Fatima Robinson--renowned choreographer for the Backstreet Boys--demonstrates the steps you've been trying to master since you saw them in her latest music video. The result is a fast-moving, 42-minute head-and-body workout. You'll want to show your friends, teach your friends, and then perform with your friends for your friends' friends. Fatima is a sinewy, commanding dancer with a serious six-pack and moves to spare. She's a smart teacher, too. With the help of some talented backup dancers, she uses a range of techniques and, best of all, makes fantastic sound effects. Go, Fatima! breaks into three segments. Fatima teaches moves from two music videos (one with Aaliyah, one with BSB) and finishes with moves you can bust out with at dances, clubs, and parties. Fatima is playful with the other dancers and funks it up with steps such as the Raj and the Shake. Her teaching is fast paced, but she repeats each move several times, speeding it up, counting it out, and then putting it all to the music. Fatima doesn't mirror-teach her dance moves, though--when she steps right, it's your left, which is tricky. The video's camerawork combines close-ups and wide-angle shots. The backdrop is a sleek concrete, glass, and steel studio (for a while, Fatima dances on top of a giant silver pillar). The music thumps. If you liked the footage of Fatima in the All Access Backstreet Boys video, you'll love her as the center of attention here. Besides, she'd look cool tying her shoes. --Emily Bedard

If you love to dance, this tape is the BEST workout! May 11, 2000 April M. Reyes (Huntington Beach, CA USA) 44 out of 46 found this review helpful
I've been DYING to find a video that is a good cardio workout as well as fun, hip dance routines and this is it! I have truly missed learning dance routines from when I was a cheerleader in high school (I'm 28 now) so when I read about Fatima and the video in Women's Sports and Fitness magazine, I hopped on to amazon.com the next day and ordered this video. Its the best ( ) I've spent in awhile! I can come home from a long, hard day at work and have no energy to go for a run or do a workout tape but I pop in Go Fatima and before I know it, an hour has passed and I'm dripping with sweat! The moves are really fun and are not super easy to learn - but if they were too simple, I'd have it mastered too quickly and then its really no workout, right? My awesome exercise comes from repeating steps over and over. I hope Fatima makes more videos but this time, I would really like to learn routines to ENTIRE songs or something I could put to several songs. That's the only real reason I didn't give it 5 stars - because the Aaliyah routine is 3 separate parts of the video and the BSB routine is only from the end of the video. The clothes Fatima wears are VERY cool - and for someone who has never had formal dance training, this woman knows how to get her groove on! All I can say is, Go Fatima!
Awesome, FUN fitness video October 18, 2001 divalicious (Vancouver, Canada baby) 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
I would give this video 5 stars, but I never give anything 5 stars because giving something 5 stars means I think it's perfect, and nothing is perfect. Anyhow, I read the earlier reviews about this video "Go Fatima, Learn to dance" and their was one when a cheerleader said she thought it was so hard. Okay I'm sorry, I dance...who doesn't, but I never took classes and I'm not a gifted dancer, but this video was pretty easy. The best thing to do, is watch the whole video first and then do it. It was so fun, I did break a sweat and it doesn't feel like a workout cause it's so much fun. To know that you can do the dance routine feels really cool. It's not incredibly easy but trust me, if you can move you're feet you can do this video. Fatima is a great choreographer, and yeah her left is your right but trust me you'll get it. Hope this helped.
Good, but confusing. December 8, 1999 Jaime T. Hemmert (Salt Lake City, Utah.) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I thought this video was a lot of fun, but there was one thing about it that bothered me. Whenever Fatima was teaching the dance moves, she did not do any 'mirroring.' Everytime she would say 'right' or 'left' I was forced to try to do the opposite of what I saw on the screen. It was confusing, but overall a great purchase.
Fatima is the bomb! January 24, 2000 M. Waters (Maryland) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
I have been looking for this video ever since I heard that Fatima made one. I just received it and I absolutely love it! There is not one bad thing I can say about this video. Fatima breaks everything down very well so that anyone can learn the dance routines to some of the hottest videos around. I would recommend this video to ANY person who loves to dance! You'll be amazed at how fast you pick up the routines and dance along with Fatima to Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" and the Backstreet Boys's "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)". Fatima even choreographed a hot new routine that you can use in the clubs! Fatima Robinson is the greatest dancer/choreographer out there! If you love to dance, buy this video!
This is not a workout- or learn-to-dance video! April 7, 2004 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
First, based on the editoral review, I don't think that Emily Bedard watched this video, much less danced to it. Fatima may be a creative and smart choreographer, but she is not a teacher. She didn't mirror-teach the moves, which makes them more than tricky. On top of that, the camerawork was terrible. The video gives close-ups, but only of the top-half of Fatima's body, leaving you guessing on the foot work. I got so frustrated trying to learn the last section of the video; I stopped and turned it off. This was the section that Fatima is on her `giant silver pillar'. During this section, the video is in an upward angle of Fatima with no view of her feet or what they're doing; leaving this section impossible to learn. Also, Fatima didn't count to all the moves. During the Aaliyah section, Fatima made sound effects that included `bop', `bam', and `dun'. I would not classify those as "fantastic sound effects" or good counting. I will use some of the moves in my routines, but I wouldn't dare try dancing to the whole song with only the moves I learned from this video. Especially the Aaliyah video, Fatima didn't provide half of the steps to this video. I can honestly say that I learned more from the music video itself. The moves alone aren't difficult. But with all the other factors affecting the learning curve with this video, I do not recommend it. This would be a good video if you are bored one Saturday morning and needed some different moves to add to your routine before hitting the clubs. Do not buy this video if you want a workout!
