Amazon.com African Healing Dance, with lead dancer Wyoma and the dancers and drummers of the Damballa dance troupe, is a step-by-step dance course on healing traditions and spiritual movements that are special to the African dance heritage. An African proverb teaches, "If you can talk, you can sing, and if you can walk, you can dance." Thus African Healing Dance is suited for beginning to advanced dancers, students of dance, instructors, and choreographers studying and/or performing African dance. The instructional video and included manual provide an effective guide for a dance or exercise program at home or in a workshop setting. Director of the Damballa dance troupe as well as head dancer, Wyoma begins with a simple warm-up, including breathing techniques; body articulation movements for the hips, chest, shoulders, and feet; and stretching. She then artistically integrates the teaching of six traditional African dances with the passion and joy of connecting dance movements that have the spirit and energy of nature and the elements (water, wind, fire, and earth) and animals such as the snake, elephant, and bird. A final portion of the 70-minute video is called "The Healing Journey," in which Wyoma encourages personal exploration of inner rhythms and feelings through improvisational movement. As one watches this video, it is difficult not to feel the pulse of the drumbeat and the spiritual strength of Wyoma and her celebration of life through dance. --Christine Aiken

I'm glad I brought it November 28, 2008 Annette Parker I love the instruction and the drum beats. I especially like the healing dance it allows me to let go of daily stress and come back to self. Strange how the sounds of Africa bring out the movements of my soul. I am Malian American and give respect to my ancestors who dance the same dance with vigor and spirit. Much love
I agree with all the good reviews July 28, 2008 ginsu (tv land) This video is excellent. I discovered this video off of another customer who reviews a lot of salsa DVDs. He said it was one of the best dance videos he's ever purchased. And recommended it to salsa dancers. used copies are cheap so ... I agree completely. This is a top quality video. THANK YOU
Excelente!!!!!!!! July 28, 2008 T. Travis (Virginia Beach, Va) All I can say is wow!!! I did read some reviews before purchasing this dvd but you know what you have to experience doing the movements yourself and give your own review. I love this dvd!!! I did take some african dance classes when I was young. So I did recognize some of the movements and let me tell you I was looking for something I could sweat to and believe me when I say I have found it. This dvd is fun and will get you to sweating from the warm into the dances. I am glad I brought it and will be working out to it every chance I get.
Wow wow wow! everybody dance! July 27, 2008 Tree Fan (Seattle, Wa) This presentation of dance, and African dance, is truly Incredible! Don't miss out - it's a Real Beauty!
Excellent resource June 28, 2008 Fiona Morris (Australia) An excellent resource for anyone interested in African dance. Wyoma is a beautiful dancer and experienced teacher. She combines her knowledge of traditional dance with a modern approach especially in the warm up session. This DVD would be suitable for the classroom too.
