| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Buns of Steel and yoga--now, there are two concepts not often seen in the same sentence. Fortunately, however, nightmare visions of some kind of Stone Cold Swami Schwarzenegger prove unfounded. Instructor Marguerite Baca is no yogi-come-lately. She clearly knows her stuff, which in this instance consists of a well-rounded, logically sequenced practice intended for intermediate users (with a few significantly more advanced postures as well). Included in the roughly 40-minute series are the "classical" sun salute (repeated several times), a flowing succession of standing poses such as Warrior 1 and 2, challenging backbends such as the bridge and the bow, a spinal twist, the butterfly (a hip opener), and the seated forward bend. Baca holds the poses long enough for them to be experienced fairly deeply (an essential aspect of any meaningful yoga practice), often following the more difficult asanas with periods of rest and appropriate counterposes--in short, the earmarks of a trained, experienced teacher. Whether your buns are made of steel or marshmallow, this tape is a pleasant surprise. --Kelly Welldon

A yoga teacher who will recommend this video to students January 13, 2000 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I was surprised to see a reviewer in San Jose judge this tape so harshly. As a teacher, I sometimes see students who are doing yoga from a place of ego and this saddens me. Indeed some forms of yoga are more precise about alignment, while others just go with the flow. Ms. Baca gives modifications for all levels, covers all the major postures, breathwork, and gives a good relaxation at the end. I will recommend her tape to my own yoga students when they ask about a good all-around tape to do at home which covers levels up to intermediate. Even those of us who are advanced realize that it is always best to approach yoga with a beginners mind, and a compassionate one. Thank you Marguerite for sharing your wisdom and love with those of us who really love yoga.
a wonderful yoga video at any level! January 29, 2000 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This was my first yoga video and I thought it to be a wonderful one. I had never done yoga before, and I found it very instructional and easy to follow. Ms. Baca guides you easily through the correct breathing and postures, and I was able to quickly feel improvment in my flexibility, strength and stress management. I have since taken yoga classes and still find it to be a wonderful video that I still use. It's great for beginners, but it's not so "beginner-oriented" that you couldn't enjoy it on any level. I highly recommend it!
A Word from Yoga Teacher Marguerite Baca April 12, 1999 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
Recently I became an internet user and was surprised to discover my video here and even more surprised to find such conflicting reviews. My sister from San Jose's harsh criticism caused me to reflect. The practice and philosophy of yoga ultimately leads to liberation from the effects of praise and criticism. A great teacher, Paramahansa Yogananda even wrote a song about this with a line, "Praise is sweet, blame a dream". And so it is my suggestion and wish for anyone seeking a yoga teacher, that they find one whom they resonate with, one who guides in a manner which calms the inner agitation and teaches non-defensiveness. Find that teacher who not only teaches strength and flexibility but also peace and joy. I've been blessed to earn my living as a yoga teacher for the last 15 years and even more blessed to have begun my own yoga and meditation practice at the age of thirteen. Since the yoga video I served as a consultant and model for the newly released book, YOGA FOR DUMMIES. I was hired by the esteemed teachers/authors, Larry Payne, Phd and Georg Feuerstein, Phd, two very knowledgable and genuinely kind people. And so I am grateful for the blessings and dedicated students that continue to come my way, because it is my sincere desire to inspire others to the true peace, health and joy that I have found through yoga.
One of the very best Yoga videos April 26, 1999 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I first viewed Buns of Steele Yoga video two years ago and have been using it every since. MargueriteBaca is a very gifted teacher and the setting of the video is extraordinary I never get tired of using it. I highly recommend this video for all levels as Ms Baca leads you safely through the poses in a very non competitie and soothing manner.
EXCELLENT FOR BEGINNERS May 14, 1999 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I tried a different beginners yoga video to help relieve my back pain, it made it worse. I then bought this video because it uses Hatha yoga. This one really helps. The explanationa of breathing and posture helped tremendously. Because of the step by step instructions Marguerite gives for beginners I can now use both videos.
