quick and good April 26, 2007 Rachel A. Spear I love this workout now but would not necessarilty recommend it for the very first months after pregnancy. I found that baby and me videos made the most sense until five months after which quick ones like this are best. Melinda's dvd is great because it is very hard at first and yet rapidly becomes easier (ie it's effective) without ever becoming dull. I like the way she paces it so that there is a little "stretch" work after a series of tougher exercises. It's also not necessary to do the whole thing to get a benefit. I hate most other Pilates videos (including her during pregnancy dvd) so I was really surprised how fun this was.
I love this workout. September 9, 2004 Julie G. (Somerset, NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My baby is 6 months old and I am still trying to get back into shape. I am a swimmer without the time to swim now, and this Pilates video is the only exercise that I've ever found to almost replace swimming. It moves quickly and gets my blood moving, while challenging my abdominal and leg muscles. It is intense but goes so quickly that it's more energizing than draining. I am excited to find a workout that doesn't aggrevate my bad knee and shoulder, and that requires little gear. I have never done Pilates before and I chose this video because Melinda Bryan is an impressive Pilates instructor. As soon as this video and Pilates become familiar I will buy her Pilates for Everyday video. I love this challenging workout!
Good Pilates, but not tailored for post-pregnancy March 13, 2004 Lara F (Berkeley, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This video is perfectly good as a normal Pilates workout, but it does not seem to be tailored at all for after pregnancy. Melinda does not suggest any variations for women with abdominal wall separation or C-section (though there is a small section at the end of the video of exercises that can be done in bed after a C-section, the one pregnancy-oriented section of the video). The primary workout seems quite rigorous for immediately post-birth, especially with no modifications suggested. The intro says that this workout should not be done until at least 4-6 weeks postpartum, which makes sense given its rigor. But then the cover shows a perfectly skinny Melinda, with the headline, "Look at her now!... Just 8 weeks after Melinda gave birth..." Has perfectly skinny, toned Melinda really only been doing her workout for two weeks? I was looking for a video which would show me a gradual way back to fitness, with appropriate modifications, and this video does not do it at all. I began my pregnancy extremely strong (I'm a professional dancer), but I have abdominal wall separation, and I need a sensible, gradual way to get my strength back, not a full-on Pilates workout with a video cover that claims that a perfect body can be had in a couple of weeks after recovery.
Melinda Bryan Knows Her Stuff!! October 27, 2003 This video is amazing and works immediately! I was not a workout fanatic after I had my baby and was hoping the pounds and inches would fall off by themselves. It didn't happen, so I tried this video-under 20 minutes, no sweating, and only 3 times a week! I found it to work after only 4 times. BEWARE-it is doing more than you think, and I even overdid it one time. Thanks Melinda! I feel and look great!
not impressive, didn't care for it April 4, 2003 Jane (Newark, NJ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
this post-natal workout had a blah affect on me, i feel like the program was for anyone, not really geared toward new moms...the women leading is very average as an intructor, she might be good in person to hollywood celebs, but she's not a good video instructor...too west coast for me
