Continuing where she left off in The Joy of Stress, Loretta LaRoche, comedian-therapist extraordinaire, delves deeper into the techniques you can use to let go of your stress in Humor Your Stress. Learning to applaud yourself is the theme of this tape, and she does this by helping you to start "ta-dahing." Using her eight steps of enlightenment to relieve stress, you'll cover the serious and the silly (but all useful) in such advice as "giggle at yourself daily" and "step lightly" (she recommends twirling to lighten a situation). Loretta makes stress-reduction fun and easy, and her stories and style will have you laughing. This is the second in the series, which originally aired on PBS. The final tape of the series is How Serious Is This? --Jenny Brown

Description
Comedienne Loretta LaRoche uses her irreverent, unconventional, wacky and just plain funny style, to show us how to "lighten our ways," including finding humor in everyday situations, learning how to stop "to-doing" and start "tah-dahing," the power of twirling, and finding "the bless in all the mess."

5 out of 5 stars Put this on your tah-dah list -   December 18, 1999

This video had me laughing out loud for an hour, and now I find myself using some of her techniques (like standing on one leg while delivering bad news to my boss). Having ordered several of her videos for our company library, I felt that I should preview them. We had to order another copy of this video for our library as the waitlist for it is never empty. I recommend this video for anyone experiencing stress at work, home, school, in traffic, which would be ... well, just everyone, wouldn't it?

I'm not very high on self-help or motivational videos of any kind, so I wasn't overly excited about having to watch a video about stress during a recent workshop meant to reenergize me for the coming months. I have to say that I did heartily enjoy this video, though. Actually, when I first saw a video by L. LaRoche on the agenda, I was trying to figure out why in the world Lyndon LaRouche was making a video about stress. Of course, this is actually Loretta LaRoche, and she turned out to be one of the funniest speakers I have ever heard. She does present some useful ideas for handling stress, from common sense notions to such interesting ideas as giving yourself a big "ta da" every so often and twirling while delivering bad news. These more audacious suggestions are not things one would really want to do in real life, particularly Negative Neds such as myself, but the general idea of her message is what matters. LaRoche does encourage positive thinking and suggests way in which you can get more joy and less stress out of both work and life in general. Even if you get absolutely nothing from this video in terms of lowering your stress level, it's still worth watching for the laughs LaRoche provides; she is hilarious, much funnier than most comedians.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun and great advice too!   February 20, 1999

Loretta LaRoche does an extremely funny shtick to relate some great advice about using humor to keep a perspective in life - advice we can all use in our busy, stress-ridden lives. Her humor leaves you feeling good, and the messages on "lightening up" are simple but profound. I have viewed this video with my 85 year old mother and have shown it to co-workers, and the response is uniformly enthusiastic. Plus, the lift it gives proves its point.

I work out to Loretta's "Joy of Stress" video and now I iron while watching "Humor Your Stress" when I need to lighten up and refocus my attitude. Loretta's insights are profound, yet she delivers in such a funny way they are remarkably effective in inspiring change. And everyone around me benefits when I get that adjustment in my "happymeter".
