Amazon.com Are you aware that 75 percent of daily conversation is negative? While you may not have noticed that, you are no doubt aware of the stress and hassles of everyday life. Loretta LaRoche, an adjunct member on the faculty of the Behavior Institute of Medicine, which is an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is determined to break you out of your cycle of negativity. Half comedian, half therapist, Loretta wants you to see the lighter side of situations. After all, optimists live longer. "Pessimists are accurate," she says, "but they don't live as long." In this hour-long video, The Joy of Stress, Loretta humorously teaches you how to adopt a critical tenet of Alcoholics Anonymous: "fake it till you make it"--how to act cheerful until it begins to come naturally. Life needs more belly laughs, she points out, and she teaches you exactly how to have them. You only thought you knew the proper way to laugh. Peppering her seminar with stories about her own Italian grandmother, her husband, and herself, Loretta's act surpasses that of many lesser comedians. Using different hats and different attitudes, Loretta will teach you how to loosen up and have you laughing (at her as well as at yourself) while you're doing it. This video works well by itself or in conjunction with her other two tapes, Humor Your Stress and How Serious Is This? --Jenny Brown
Description Loretta LaRoche shows you how to prevent "hardening of the attitude" and use humor to break the negative and irrational thought patterns that cause stress, and reframe them into powerful, positive tools for change.

Loretta LaRoche is awesome! We showed this video to our staff, and all couldn't stop laughing. Definitely shows you the "lighter" side of stress. You may even see yourself in some of her examples! You have to get this video and watch it with your family and friends.

I am a mental health therapist and I used this video with my counseling groups. They gave the video rave reviews.
doesn't teach you how to deal with the problem January 29, 2001 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
I think most of the jokes are so over done by other comedians. I know the reason why I'm stressed, and all I wanted was to find an easier way to deal with the problem. not make my self laugh by looking at the humor of my problem. It is true that humor can calm you down, but the problem does not go away.
Helped some of my Eating Disorder Issues March 6, 2002 S. A. Brown (Buffalo, NY United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've suffered my whole life (am now 38). This tape was the first thing I ever saw that helped me to actually laugh at myself and begin to gain some perspective on my irrational behavior. As an example, it has given me a whole new dimension of thought at the grocery store which has now become quite an amusing place to be. There are many self-help books to deal with "worrying about what other people think". One hour listening to Loretta has been more helpful and memorable to me than the many books I have read through the years. I watch it on a regular basis. When I start getting too serious about myself I think of this tape and I'm laughingly brought back to reality. The money spent on this tape has been the best money I spent in a very long time. You want to entertain? Invite people over to watch this; that is how I first watched it. :D
Very funny, true October 20, 1999 The Teacher (Shreveport, LA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The video is funny. It points out and pokes fun at the irrational beliefs and attitudes that amplify stress.
