Great video for new puppies October 14, 2005 Kim (Maple Valley, WA) We purchased this video before we even got our puppy, at the suggestion of a friend who was a vet's assistant. It has very practical advice and hands on demonstrations. We have watched it several times with our 4 year old so we are all using the same words and techniques. We plan to take obedience classes too but highly recommend this video to others to get started.
This training tool is a must for all puppy owners! November 22, 2004 Julie Smith (CA.) Nine years ago I was lucky enough to have found this video training tape. And ever sense, I have recommended this video to everyone I know with a new puppy. My husband and I were the proud owners of a new Rottweiler Puppy and wanted to make sure we could handle such a strong dog. This video gave us all the tools we needed to give us the best dog we have ever owned. The daily holding /training time with our Rottie produced a very sweet natured gentle dog that is marvelous to our three small children. It also allowed us to get intuned with our new puppy so we could have a better understanding of his needs. This video is a must for anyone wanting to train a dog to be a fantastic part of your family pack. Julie Smith CA.
X Lazy Owner December 20, 2003 I have given this video or suggested it to numerous people over the years. This training works! I had 3 young terriers that were all trained by these techniques and the most important thing I found was that there are no BAD DOGS...just lazy owners! This video trains owners which to me is the first step. Being consistant is the second. I knew in order to have 3 terriers at one time, along with children, we all had to be trained. And so "we all" were for years due to Jeanne. My kids are all adults now and have dogs and children of their own and use this video. I am so happy "Good Puppy" is still out there!
I'm no shrinking violet... but this video concerned me... November 17, 2002 S. Ohmer (Alaskan Island) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have raised terriers all my life, so I'm no stranger to the need for dominance training, but this video demonstrated what I consider to be my past mistakes as the right way to train a young puppy. For example, slamming a hand sharply on a kennel door and yelling at a puppy to be quiet, or lecturing at length to a dog who clearly doesn't understand english--"What do you have? That is not a toy! Shame on you! Give me that! That is not yours. Don't you chew on that!" I would recommend the Monks of New Skete 3-video set instead. Their methods also include dominance training and ways to become the pack leader with your puppy, but their methods follow more closely standard behavioral techniques that seem more clear to the dog and more "centered" for the owner. Other people liked this video. Mine went in the garbage. I didn't even feel comfortable donating it to our local library.
THE BEST, MOST USEFUL PUPPY/DOG TRAINING I'VE EVER SEEN. March 11, 1999 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
The video is not only extremely useful, but fun to watch. The scenes with puppies and dogs are completely real and appliable to everyone's home. The trainer, Jeanne, has an amazing understanding of how dogs think and how to communicate with them through their canine behavior. I've seen her train, and it's incredible how she can get any dog to happily adjust to acceptable behavior, quickly and lovingly. If you have a new pup, and follow the video's suggestions, you'll have a well-behaved happy dog, as I do, having followed her advice all the time. As the pup grows, read her book, "Good Dogs, Bad Habits". It's full of easy to find solutions to dog problems, and funny too. Her training dog phone number is: 206-547-7877. ENJOY!!
