2 out of 5 stars Unintentional Comedy from Fred Williamson   February 19, 2006
Charles J. Rector (Woodstock, IL United States)
The movie at hand, Foxtrap, is a Fred Williamson production. Williamson was the director, producer and star of this particular movie. He also co-wrote the novel that was based on the script by Aubrey K. Rattan. As it happens, Foxtrap is a representative example of what a Fred Williamson production is like.

Foxtrap begins promisingly enough with private detective Thomas Fox being hired to find the lost neice of a rich man. This neice was last seen in France, so Fox goes to the Cannes film festival apparently on the grounds that white gals hang out in Cannes. Fox is a really tough guy who drives a big car with license plates "DA FOX." Those plates really come in handy when a gang of kids try to steal the radio off his car and run away when they see those plates! There is also a goofy scene when Fox is laying on top of a bed with a foxy chick when two hit men show up aiming to do him in. Fox shoots wildly while simultaneously kissing the young lady and hits one of them and then the other turns right around and runs up the stairs with his back an easy target for the sly Fox. It is never established who the hit men are or why they came for Fox, leading to the suspicion that the whole scene was put in solely for filler and to add senseless violence to the flick. During the course of this flick, there is a classic line uttered by Fox: "your style may be ghetto, but your bank account is Beverly Hills." At the end of the movie, there is the promise that Fox would return in a movie entitled, "Fox and the Cobra" that would never be made.

In the end, Foxtrap is a good example of an unintentional comedy. The script is hackneyed and, except for Williamson's performance, the acting is poor. The direction is pretty poor. The lesson here is that Williamson produced flicks should be avoided by movie fans unless you are really into unintentional humor and have a perverse love for bad cinema.

3 out of 5 stars good action thriller   October 16, 2007
B. Minges (los angeles, california)
"foxtrap" (1986) is a good action thriller shot in los angeles and parts of europe. starring the king of blaxploitation fred williamson hired to find a missing girl in france. williamson also wrote, produced and directed one of his better later films. williamson probably the best-looking black actor, delivers another natural solid performance with his slick suites, cigar and charm. of course williamson has a steamy love scene with a lovely italian girl as well. christopher connelly also gives a fine performance as the bad guy. "foxtrap" is a well paced thriller with good shoot out scenes and fight scenes. wish it was on dvd.
