Editorial Reviews:

Description
Casey is a longshorewoman who seems to have everything: she lives on a boat with her beautiful social worker girlfriend Alex, and they are very much in love. But there's nothing like the holidays to bring out the drama of the average family. Casey has rejected her privileged upbringing and restores old boats for a living. What she can't reject is her deep attachment to her family living just across the bay. When the Olsens come together for Christmas, the unwrapping of presents takes a back seat to the unraveling of emotions. Against the backdrop of the gorgeous New England coast, Director Lauren Himmel tells a tender story of repression and the changing notions of family.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful movie - calm, serine, and overall astonishing   April 27, 2003

This movie is definately one of my favorites. Starting with the first scene, it grabs you and doesn't let go. The music is amazing and goes very well with the scenery, which is also incredible. The acting is great, and so is the dialogue. The only thing I thought was less than amazing was the plot line - but don't let that discourage you. Even though it is not the most amazing story ever written, it can still hold its own - and the overall tone of the movie makes up for it. I have seen it 4 times, and I still love to watch it. I recommend watching it when you are very calm, and just want to watch something beautiful.

1 out of 5 stars The movie barely treads water   December 27, 2002

This movie is very hard to follow and the plot difficult to completely understand. Too many assumptions are made about the relationships between family members and the relationship between the lesbian couple is never developed.

I do not recommend this movie, it is a waste of time and money.
