Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Nathan Pritikin's son--and director of the famed institute launched by Dad--begins this lecture by claiming to love pizza and high-fat ice cream. But the viewer quickly learns that Robert Pritikin hasn't strayed too far from his family's low-fat roots when it comes to how he actually eats. His calorie-focused program concentrates on ways to fill up without filling out (eat smaller meals more often, eat fruit and vegetables alongside carbohydrates, and such). He recommends daily exercise and offers opinions on high-protein diets (thumbs down) and the absence of heart disease in France (a myth). This 78-minute talk before a (mostly svelte) audience also includes some intense medical information. Pritikin takes the trouble to explain how salt affects organ function and the medical difference between good and bad cholesterol. He also expounds upon heart disease and adult-onset diabetes, citing the most recent medical studies and throwing in a little anthropology as well. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4 out of 5 stars Interesting and Informative   March 10, 2001

I saw this video and immediately thought that it would make a good gift for some of my family members who stuggle with their weight. The video is really well done and Dr. Robert Pritikin presents well. Pritikin covers a lot of interesting information in the video. The topics that registered the most with me were the ones on how the human body reacts to surgar, and the tips on how best to develop an exercise routine. The video confirmed a lot of the advice that I have received over the years from other people.

5 out of 5 stars Science and health   July 7, 2004

This is not another crash diet. It is a scientifically based reasonable life long strategy for acheiving and maintaining good health. Althought his father's diet (Pritikin diet) was not based on good science, the son (Robert Pritikin) is educated and experienced in health science. The recommendations are clear and simple and easy for everyone to follow without gimicks, apparatutus or special diets. A great educational experience in health and nutrition.
