Description Jazz dance, this popular dance form as seen on the stage, in movies, on television as well as in nightclubs, at sporting events, in gymnastics, dance team and skating routines. It is a means of self-expression that is exciting, challenging, entertaining, and artistic. It can develop muscle tone, reduce fatigue, release tension and build self-esteem by giving you control over your body. From the styles of Gene Kelly to MTV, this video will teach you the techniques used in jazz dance such as correct body positions, rhythm, traveling steps, kicks, turns, leaps, traveling steps and a combination. For the novice as well as a refresher for the experienced dancer, this video is geared towards ages 8 through adult. Includes a special section on turning techniques.

Quick view of basic dance steps. February 22, 2004 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Christy Lane's Jazz Dance Level 1 Video gives a quick over view of the basic beginning jazz dance steps. The video teaches isolations, simple turns, jazz walks/steps, a few kicks, and two simple jumps. The video also encorporates two simple combinations at the end for beginners. The video is a good refresher for students of dance who have not danced for awhile. While the video shows great technique, many of the dance steps are only shown on one side of the body, and the steps are gone through rather quickly at times. Unfortunately, Christy gives the learner only one or two slow chances at the step, and then quickly moves the step up to tempo. I believe the video shows great technique and proper body positioning. However, the pause and rewind buttons on your VCR will be used a lot in order to practice the steps.
