The Ultimate Gift for new Trekkies November 22, 1999 Michael Kukielka (Rochester Hills, Michigan, United States) 50 out of 51 found this review helpful
I can't imagine how excited I would be if I opened up this beauty on Christmas day. Now that I already have all of the films on VHS and DVD, I no longer have that opportunity. This is a beautiful collection with a wonderful bonus episode "Tapestry" from "The Next Generation". This collection has ALL the movies, including the latest "Star Trek Insurrection". Buyers should take note that there are two versions of this VHS sets. A widescreen version which features those black-bars on the bottom and top of the screen, and a pan & scan version which fits your standard TV set. For purists, I highly recommend the widescreen edition since it shows the entire image rather than slicing it apart to fit the TV screen. If you have a trekker in the family who does not have any of the films, this is the gift to beat all gifts. If you don't feel like searching your local stores for all 9 film or if you want to save some money rather than buying the movies one video at a time, this is the set for you.

Everyone has his or her favorites. Few people find any of the movies negative. My favorite is Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. I always had a preference for the time travel episodes (Star Trek - The Original Series, Episode 28: The City On the Edge Of Forever (1966) ASIN: 6300213323). However all of these movies are well made. And to have all ten tapes in a set is an added plus any kid will tell you that volume can be fun also. The closed caption option is sometimes fun to watch even if you do not particularly need to. However it is an added plus for those that do.Christmas is coming back soon. Also Hanukkah, winter solstice, and Kwanzaa.
