Blazing a hole in the ground April 1, 2006 Flight Junkie (Pacific NW) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
This game does NOT work with joysticks (well, it works, but planes immediately do a barrel-roll into the ground, evidently a mapping problem which you can't correct on your own - I tried!) - specifically, I have a Logitech Force3DPro, which works great w/other flight sims. This game is a poor port of an XBOX 360 game, and it even gives instructions for the XBOX in the tutorial. To activate the flight controls, you hit keys - A, D, E, etc. - only problem is control surface are "full on" or "full neutral" - no in-between. So the planes jump around and rarely go where you want them to, and almost impossible to land. Graphics are ok, but not great. Maybe when Ubisoft has a fix available to make it work with a proper joystick, this it would be worth $10 to $12 USD. Otherwise, it's junk. I bought it for the PC, 'cause the XBOX 360 is STILL unavailable...last time I'll do that. Total waste of $40.
You pay 100% of the purchase price, they give you 45% of a game April 3, 2006 James Cunningham (Spring, Tx United States) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Well here is everything that is wrong about gaming. Developers release a flying game for PC before they even test it with a joy stick! I don't know about the rest of you but I don't use one of those crummy X-Box controllers on my PC. So basically what you have here is a flying game with planes that are impossible to fly, and that as everybody knows, is a lot of fun. Add that to the fact that you cannot return your purchase and you have a net loss of $40.00. Go ahead and wait for this one to show up in the bargain bin and then buy something else. Yes I am sure that now that they know there is a problem they will rush to patch it, but even when it is fixed I will not advise people to buy this game. I won't reward game companies that act like this. Just let them continue to wonder why PC game sales are dropping.
These negative reviews aren't telling the story! July 26, 2006 informed buyer (Los Angeles, CA) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Sucks to be you I guess, if you're one of the other reviewers who couldn't get this game to work because it's really an amazing game and you are totally missing out. Graphics are incredible and very smooth (with my P4 3.4Ghz, EVGA GeForce 7800 card, 3 GB RAM). Game installed without a hitch - I downloaded and ran the sizeable patch - and it played perfectly right away (no phone calls or support needed). The missions are quite challenging (sometimes VERY challenging) and fun and the WWII planes are really beautiful. I could come up with some minor gripes - like the repetetive radio messages (taunts) that come from the enemy pilots...the fact that you can't inflict collateral damage in the scenery (which includes some planes on the ground)...but they are minor and don't take away from the greatness of this game. The multi-player modes are a lot of fun also - you can play over internet, LAN, and even split screen. I should also say that I use a Logitech Rumblepad 2 as well as a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick, both without any troubles whatsoever (especially after I configured them using the utility included with the game). I am honestly very confused about why this game has so many negative reviews - I almost didn't buy it because of them - but I am certainly glad I did! Love this game!
it works May 9, 2006 Christian Nielsen (ridge ny) 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
after reading the reviews on amazon i was not going to buy it, but lets be honest you must have an updated computer, the install was a little tricky but i contacted ubi soft and in 15 minutes i was up and running , i had the guy at game stop demo it for me and was impressed, i own just about every flight sim game but the graphics are nice you get to fly over towns and villages in ww 1 plane and take on newer planes the last ubi soft game i bought was heros of the pacific and i was dissapointed but on my first run this game kept my attention for an hour and a half. perhaps the people that complain need to upgrade there computers i use the best ati radeon video card my dell dimension 3000 can handle and have done every upgrade on the system, you do not need to spend 4000 dollars on a gaming computer to make these games that go for 39.00 work. . i was able to manuever the planes nicely even with out the joystick plugged in for the money i paid im very happy with the game

This is by far the worst game ever. It does not work on a PC despite the advertisement. I have a high end computer and the game consistently will crash the computer. It is unfortunate that they would release the game before it is ready to be used. And unfortunately I do not know how to get my money back for a faulty software game.
