Quarter mile showdown August 12, 2006 G. Ballantine (Illinois) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first game in over 5 years that has included a successful online portion, although it has it's limits. The online portion is weak to say the least. There is no chat available in the online portion, and it's impossible to know if anyone is there waiting to race you unless you set it up and wait. The game itself is basically the same as the Playstation realease, although tuning seems to be much more difficult. Good for sim racers, but not for novices and younger gamers. The graphics are decent, the sound is sub-par but works most of the time. There are a few bugs, and if your computer doesn't match the recommended specs, videos and the like are non existant. The company is working on patches to repair some of the problems. Fun game, and cheap price, but let's hope the next version is a much better one. Thanks
Great game for every drag racer November 10, 2006 Edgar Perez (Howell, NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It is a little hare to work with keyboard. Mouse works better and steering wheel setup should work even better.

I cannot believe NHRA allowed it's name to be used on this game. What a pile of garbage!!!!
Good game for a Drag Racing fan but there are Vista issues February 8, 2008 T. Buxton (East Yorkshire, UK) This game has a bit of an issue with windows vista in that there is no sound. This is due to the fact that vista no longer fully supports directsound as XP and 2000 do. While in most games this just results in the loss of 3d sound effects, unfortunately, in this game, it results in no sound at all. It appears that valusoft, athough seemingly aware of this problem, are not willing to do anything about it in way of a patch so Vista users are stuck with a mute game. I can't really hold this against the game too much as vista is not officially on the list of supported operating systems and apart from being a bit silent I really enjoy playing this game. There is loads of scope for tweeking the setup and tuning of your car and I've had many hours of fun tweeking things like spark gap, blower overdrive, fuel flow, clutch timings etc. then doing a run and analizing all the data in the form of graphs to see where I can get away with further tweaks and further improve my E.T and Speed. This is what drag racing is all about and I love it, though it has to be said that, if you're not quite such a drag racing nut as I am, the novelty may wear off rather more quickly. Overall, a great fun game if you're a hardcore drag race fan. Graphics are pretty good if a bit dated but you can't increase the resolution past 1042 x 768 which is a bit of a pain when running on a 1680 x 1050 lcd screen like me, but you get over it. If only I could hear the sound I would give it an extra star.
