Holy cow--this game alone justifies an XBox system purchase! November 30, 2002 fair_deal_guy (Prior Lake, MN USA) 27 out of 33 found this review helpful
I played the first Lord of the Rings game for the XBox and was a little disappointed. The graphics were good--nearly everything on the XBox exceeds what you can get on the other platforms--but there was something about it that felt "ported" from another platform. As a result, I felt like the potential of the game was never reached. On the other hand, Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers is DAZZLING! The game play is noticably improved, and the graphics are literally jaw-dropping. I have never seen a graphical adventure game that has the resolution, color and quality of Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers. I think this will be one of those rare video games that people hang onto for years and stays in demand well down the road as so-called "newer and better" games and systems come around. In this regard, I would think the purchase of Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers is a pretty smart investment!
WOW! PS2 watch out, XBOX is right on your tail! December 7, 2002 smokey McPot (hoodridge, Illinois) 22 out of 33 found this review helpful
LOTR: The Two Towers was on of the best games i've ever played! I played the game on PS2 the first time and it was incredible and i fell in love w/ it...but of course, it will be much better on XBOX((the graphics, gameplay, music...etc.)) I am a huge LOTR fan and this game made me tingle inside!! this game was phenomenal!! you start out the game playing as Isiuldor at the foot of Mount Doom moments before he keeps the ring like a total jackass. then you venture forth as either Gimli((cousin of Bailin)) Legolas the elven archer, or Aragorn((strider))... you have the choice betweeen each level to choose who you would like to fight with depending on each characters personal combos and speacials. the game features many cut-scenes going from movie to game flawlessly! each time after you complete a level you have the choice of new powerups depending how you did on the previous level. this game is a definant keeper...buy the game...you will fall in love with it from the 1st orc arm that falls to the ground, from the tens of thousands of orcs marching at you! i hope that i helped parents AND especially...the gamers of 2morrow!!
All I can say is: THX EA!!!!! December 8, 2002 obryanstars 18 out of 25 found this review helpful
I played the PS2 version of this, and man is it fun. Unfortunantly, I own an XBOX and the game by Vivendi is in my opinion, very bad... So, when I found out that the fun version, by EA Sports was coming the XBOX, I was overjoyed. Here's a sort of preview and some facts. Well, here goes:1. This game will be released On January 1st on the XBOX and the Gamecube. I can't wait, can u? 2. This game has the story from both the first movie and the second. First u play through the first movie, the Fellowship of the Ring, then u play through the 2nd movie, The Two Towers. Both are fantastic movies, have a ton of action and fighting, and are both fun-filled and have a great story. 3. The XBOX version will have updated graphics from the PS2 version. The PS2 version was fantastic, this version is suppose to be even better! Basic depth on the game: A ring is found by a hobbit named Frodo Baggins. It is a magical ring, and he later finds out, an evil ring. So evil and so powerful, this ring could destroy the world if it falls into the wrong hands. Evil in the world has heard of the ring, knows where it is, and is trying to get it, led by Sauron, the one who created the ring. Now Frodo, with the help of 8 other powerful men, elves, and hobbits, must find a way to destroy it before it's too late. So you will play through the first two movies, trying to destroy the ring of power using any force neccesary. You will battle your way through Orcs, Trolls, soldiers, black riders, magic, horrible beasts, and armies larger than you can imagine. But at your hand, you have magic, sword, bow and arrow, and the will to do good. You must destroy the ring of power, and save the world from ultimate destruction: In the game, you can play as 3 characters: 1. Legolas, an elf with an incredible bow and arrow, which you will use to fight your way through obstacles unimagineable. 2. Gimli: A small dwarf with an axe that can cut through any orc hide. With a brave heart, stout persounality, and fighting skills that rival some of the greatest warriors ever to be found, Gimli is worthy of being called a good soldier. The last character you can control is Aragorn (known as Strider), a powerful man with incredible fighting skills. He has a sword and a bow and arrow at his disposal, and is perhaps the deadliest fighter of them all. With these characters, you must stop evil in their tracks, and help Frod complete an un-imaganible task. Destroying the ring of power, the one ring to rule them all. Final Comments: I was a bit dissapointed that you couldn't control Gandalf (with his magical powers as he is a wizard). And perhaps even Frodo, as he is the main character in both the movie and the book. But overall, the selection of characters was good, and should be enjoyable. I hope this helped, and once again, this is a preview. I've played the Two Towers on the PS2 and loved it. All this above is facts. However, I do expect this game will be nearly exactly the same as the PS2 version (with enhanced graphics), and that a classic is soon headed to the XBOX. That's my preview, and I hope it helped. Thx!
Tolkien enters the world of console gaming! January 25, 2003 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
For a true Tolkien fan, this game is a masterpiece. It focuses on hack and slash action (nonstop, except cutscenes) based on the first two new line cinema movies.Graphics: Player models are good, sometimes funny to look at though. The game beautifully blends scenes from the movies with the graphics from the game. Sound: Soundtracks from the movies, combined with all the original actors voicing the characters. Dolby Digital 5.1 makes this a realistic experience, swords clashing all around you. It doesn't get much more like the movie than that! Story: Exactly as Tolkien made it. The game is told by Aragorn talking to Eowyn (I think) and telling her of his adventures. Gameplay: Excellent, I couldn't be more pleased with the tremendous action that makes you feel like a part of the Fellowship. You upgrade your weapons (and life) and earn more moves by purchasing them with upgrade points that you earn after each level. The better score you got in the level, the more upgrade points you recieve. I would have liked for the game to not be so restrictive. Some of the time it feels like an old fashioned side scroller, for you can only move left and right, even though the "real" world is still untraversed. The parts which allow you to move freely are small, I would be more pleased if the game allowed you to go more places. Replayability: Excellent. This game is beat on "easy" in very little time, but you can unlock a bonus mission and a secret character with more playing. There is no multiplayer :( I would have liked cooperative. The thing I like about this game most would be that whenever I feel in a "Tolkien" mood, I just put in the Two Towers and enjoy the storyline and action sequences over and over again. Great game! Kept me by the TV for a long while, but rent if you have any doubts about it.
Get. This. Game. When. It. Comes. Out! December 10, 2002 12 out of 16 found this review helpful
In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers you can control Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, or Isildur (only in the first mission and as the secret character.) Legolas (my personal favorite) is a speedy elf who uses his long knives (yes i know they are a bit too long to be knives) and his bow to make his way through Middle-Earth. Gimli, a quite different character, is more concentrated on melee attacks and using his battle axe (his projectile weapons are smaller hand axes.) Aragorn is a mix of the two, using his sword and his bow combined with his decent speed and also good attacks to fend off orcs, uruk-hai, trolls, and all the other creatures. There is a great upgrading system as well. You get a grading on how well you battle each enemy: fair, good, excellent, or perfect. The points are totaled up and you get that much to "spend" on moves, weapons, and upgrades. I resent that it is a pure "hack-and-slash" game although many people think that. There is a good variety, i think, so you will have to, for example, battle bosses in a different way and other things. There is plenty of action, however. The missions are sweet! They're filled with exciting things to do, places to go, people to meet, and, of course, enemies to rid. People say that it is over too quickly but i would like to see them beat it in three hours or two hours or whatever they think they beat it in. I know all this because i've played my friend's Ps2. Xbox will take full advantage of this masterpiece by EA. Graphics: 10 out of 10 Sound: 10 out of 10 Gameplay: 10 out of 10 Extras (hidden stuff and features): 11 out of 10Biased? Naw, i'll just go with "flawless".
