The Click Is Back! April 21, 2008 Robert J. De Martini (Hayward, CA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
For those who went from Guitar Hero then back to Rock Band you'll welcome back the click of the strum bar. But the benefits just begin there. You can now play either wireless or wired, and if you place rechargeable batteries in the guitar you can charge it while playing using the included wire. Switching between Rock Band and Guitar Hero is pretty easy. Move the switch on the red box (the one pictured in the photo) to Guitar Hero, press and hold the Nyko button on the guitar until the box and the guitar sync up, and voila, you're good to go. Same with Rock Band. The ONLY complaint I have is the buttons on the neck are very small (and no lower set of buttons). They are more akin to the Guitar Hero guitar, but I did appreciate the neck of the original Rock Band guitar. With everything else this guitar has going for it, it's a small adjustment that is easily made.
Love it April 25, 2008 P. Potera (Illinois) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this controller. I think it's better than the Les Paul, which I think is much better than Rock Band's Fender. It was a pleasant surprise. The strum bar click is predictable and accurate. The receiver has a very cool feature - it sports five colored diodes corresponding to the neck buttons that light up as you press them. The "PS" button on the guitar lights up in different colors depending on which number is assigned to the controller. I find the receiver's cable way too short, but that's easily solved with a USB extension cable. Yes, it has a cheap feel to it, but so do the others - I didn't expect much from a fake plastic guitar.
May not be the best but for gh3 and rockband its perfect April 18, 2008 Craig Kasper (Connecticut) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
After seeing that many guitars are coming out this month I have chosen to get this one over the TAC. the TAC does look nice but i frankly am impatient. The Nyko Frontman for the PS3 works perfect with Rock band and guitar hero. The guitar actually clicks when strumming! I can now do expert songs I couldn't before due to the flimsy rock band guitar. As compared to the PS3 Guitar Hero 3 guitar the frontman is sub par feeling flimsy in the neck but the body feels strong. for a guitar I can use for both rockband and GH3 This is near perfect.
Bi-Directional Strum Bar Issue April 20, 2008 J. Hall (Rawlins, WY USA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've played the Front MAN Guitar for a few days now and am ready to say something. I'm having a BIG problem with the Bi-Directional Strum Bar. It seems that when I strum the bar like I do on the Les-Paul, the Front-Man sends a double click or something like that... The song gives me the note, but right after that, it like, takes it away as if I strummed the bar again (weird) and is very annoying! At first, I just knew it was me, but after troubleshooting I found that it is positively the Strum bar. I come to this conclusion after going through a menu screen (from top to bottom) by performing a strum, as if I were strumming a note in a game screen and seeing that the highlighted option would move down and then immediately pop back up. I can play a song and get a fair score by pushing the strum bar down instead of plucking or strumming it BUT, this is not the way it should be, when the notes start coming fast one can not play without strumming. Other than that issue, I find that the Front-Man an ok Guitar, I like the response of the fret buttons and the whammy bar, the size and general feel of the guitar...
Nice guitar if it didn't freeze all the time April 26, 2008 Josh B (Austin, TX) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Got this yesterday and immediately hooked it up. First word of warning, the instructions are incorrect on syncing the guitar with the foot pedal. You need to click on the guitar nyko button 3 times. Took me about 15 mins to figure this out. Here is the problem I'm having. The guitar freezes up randomly. I'll be playing a song and the guitar will just be unresponsive. Could be in the middle of a song, a solo, a long chord or just going through the menu. It seems to be random and is not a battery problem, as I have tried multiple batteries. It is extremely annoying and ruins the whole experience. I suppose that is one of the problems with buying 3rd party products.
