Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Dragonball Z: Burst Limit is the first game of the Dragonball Z series to hit the next generation consoles. It features the detailed graphics and dramatic, seamless battles expected from a next-generation console. During each battle, you will find conditions that create new dramatic scenes with characters and movement reminiscent of the original animation. After the battles, watch a unique story unfold each time you play. There is also a stronger element of offense and defense, due to added energy saving and fighting techniques. Use of special skills will no longer drain energy. The lower your energy, the stronger you get, making for a possible turnaround of the battle.

So i bought this game yesterday 6-11. Couldnt wait to get off work so i could go play. put the game in and actually sit through the tutorials. Lets say i was very impressed with gameplay and how fluent it worlked. After i finished tutorial i went to the saga. Now being someone that owned all budokai's i was expecting a decent length and substancial storyline. To say the least i was wrong. I finished the story that night. I mean what a rip i only got up to the cell saga? I came in thinking it was all the way through to buu at least and had all the characters i came to love in budokai 3. Instead of giving me movies at the end of each saga they could have put some effort into actually finishing the series. When i buy a game i buy it for substance some good gameplay. Not half of a game with better graphics. Btw they include the first disk of season one which pissed me off even more. Since season one came out last year if not two years ago and most of us hardcore fans already bought the complete set. What are we going to do with one out of six disks in a set. Just a way to get ppl to sink more money into this franchise. I strongly urge everyone to rent this game before buying so you can see exactly what its worth. Maybe $[...] tops if you dont have a good budokai to play. "time to hook back up the ps2"

4 out of 5 stars A New Look To An Old Franchise   June 12, 2008

First and foremost, I do like the Dragon Ball series. I enjoy the stories and shrug off the unrealistic fighting. This game is for the fans and fighting genre players.

First, let me talk about the Story Mode. There are only 3 story arcs: Vegeta, Frieza and Cell Sagas. This is where I have a problem. There is plenty of room for the Buu Saga. A casual gamer can beat the Story Mode on Normal (including the bonus modes) in about 3-4 hours (real time). The Buu Saga could have added another 2 hours.

The difficulty levels range from Very Easy, Easy and Normal. Once you complete the entire story, Hard and Very Hard will be unlocked. Lastly, the Z Mode will be unlocked. The difficulty levels of the AI is very balanced and once players find their comfort zone, they will really enjoy themselves. The only flaw I noticed was the last 5 or so levels in the Cell Saga. The difficulty jumped abruptly and made the final stages take a half dozen tries (at times) to beat. Sure, it's the last few levels and they should be more difficult, but not jump such as this.

The fighting system is fluid and unique. You have a light attack for speed/light damage and a heavy attack for slow/high damage. There is one block button which can block attacks as well as counter attacks. You zip behind your opponent and you can attack them. Be careful though! They can counter your counter. Lastly is you Ki button which can do special moves depending on which way you move the left thumbstick. For example, if you press B while moving the thumbstick towards your opponent, you can do a Kamehameha attack. If you press the stick up and press B (when your energy bar is full) you will unleash a special Ultimate Attack. This deals huge amounts of damage!

There is also a few other modes you can play including Survival, Time Attack, and Verses Mode (VS Mode is against the CPU or a Human). I tried Xbox Live around 10:30PM EST. I had no lag what-so-ever. This may change if you try to play it during peak hours of 3-9PM.

The graphics are amazing. I've always loved cell-shading and this is very crisp and colorful. The cut-scenes are a little underdone but the gameplay graphics are to die for.

All in all, the game is great. I have to give it 4 stars due to the short story mode. For the $60 price tag, it's just too short. I have to suggest renting it first and you truly like it, buy it. DBZ fans will be in their glory but for the fighting game junkies (like myself), it's something which is nice to play; not a must have in your library.

So I just put down the controller after a good 4hr+ test drive. And I have to say I am impressed with this new edition to the dragonball franchise.
The learning curve for this one is extremely easy and simple to get the hang of. I have to say I do miss the over the shoulder look the "Dragon Ball Z:B.T.2 and 3 had, And you don't get near as many characters or story levels. But where you lose in areas you gain in others. None of the Characters feel the same, all the combos and moves feel different with each.
I say if you are a Fan of the DBZ series or just a fan of a good fighting sim this is the game for you!

I pre ordered this game from amazon 7days ago and the mail man came today with it, i was so exited to play this game so i played storymode and wow thats how DBZ should look like. 3D greatness, so for the storymode during each battle, find conditions to create new scense and watch unique story unfold at the end of each game. Higher quality gameing, experience visuals and movement reminicent of the anime due to Z3 shading technology and detailed effects. High intensity battles, increased speed of charge and release on the field, free movement around the field, and increased speed and power of attacks. Energy, use special skills will no longer drain energy. The lower your energy, the stronger you get, makeing for a possible turnaround of the battle. Fatal Blow, each character in the game has their own Fatal Blow. If the player successfully attacks his oppoiniet, this would be a finishing move, but if not, it will put the player in the disavantageous situation, and he must battle with no Fatal Blow for the rest of the battle. This is the best DBZ game iv evered played, its like shin bodukai mixed bodukai3 and other crazy stuff, so this is a great game.

The Dragonball Z game to wish for. Well definitly the one to get for the next generation systems. With awesome visuals and tight game control this is far probably the best DBZ game thus far. The graphics are real smooth and very colorful in this game. Making it very addictive to watch. Even if you own all the previous DBZ games on the PS2. Watching this one on the screen will make you cash up your money just for the visuals and the game control is actually pretty good in Burst Limit.
Same storylines as always but this time they only threw in the primary action lines just enough for you to know what's going on. Then next thing you know the action is rolling! My opinoin this DBZ is worth it for any DBZ fan and the graphics will probably draw in other fighting fans. DragonBall Z Burst Limit for the next generation systems is the one to get!
