Updated version of Jedi Power Battles May 6, 2005 J. Leigh (chicago) 73 out of 76 found this review helpful
Overall this game is like a much upgraded version of Jedi Power Battles originally released for the PSX. If you liked that old PSX game you will LOVE this game. The experience points you collect can be used to upgrade your Force and combat abilities- like a lite RPG. As you progress through the game, additional features are unlocked such as additional bonus levels. Multiplayer includes Versus as well as Cooperative. Opponents in versus mode are unlocked as you progress through the game. Obiwan and Anakin have a wide variety of moves and the dueling is the best that has ever been done so far in a Star Wars game. Cheat codes are readily available if needed. Cons: at certain levels of the game it does start to feel repetitive with endless numbers of droids coming after you. The extra graphics capability of the Xbox is put to good use by creating very nice backdrops - like giant capital ships crashing into each other. Note: if you play the last level (Level 17) a second time, you will be figthing as Anakin rather than Obi-wan. If you win, you will be treated to an alternative ending to the game.
Could have been better, could have been worse May 5, 2005 B. J. L. Zumwalt (Gresham, OR USA) 31 out of 38 found this review helpful
I must admit that movie tie-in video games have a bad rap for a very good reason and this game is no exception. Had it been a Star Wars tie-in rather than a movie adaption, it could have been so much better. Video games need flexible release tables to give the programmers the time they need to work out the bugs and fine tune the details and Revenge of the Sith didn't get that chance. To offer a better idea of what I mean, let me break this game down. Revenge of the Sith is very similar in many ways to the holiday release adaption of King Arthur. The game is played from a flexible side-scrolling perspective that gives a cinimatic quality to the game over freedom of motion. This helps the game by giving you a feel for what the movie might bring and makes you feel as though you are a part of the movie itself. The problem is that the cut-scenes use actual video footage from the movie. Why is this a problem? Simple, the programmers didn't have the time necessary to smooth out all the rough edges and, compaired against the multi-million dollar CGI and professionally acted movie scenes, these edges appear more rough than they would have without the cut-scenes. Control wise, this game is good, but is also lacking, like the aforementioned King Arthur. With time to balance the controls a little better, this game could have been great. The basic fighting controls work great, but the more advanced moves take time and with how fast the action is moving, you may not always find yourself with the time you need. More to the point, the game offers three saber attack styles; light, medium, and heavy. The first two are quite useful, but the heavy attack is only necessary on the toughest opponents and takes so much time to prepare that your character often ends up striking empty space and being left open to counter attacks. Despite all this, Star Wars fans will probably find a lot to like from this game. Its just that $50 may be too much to shell out for it. Most people may want to rent before they buy, because, depending on your style, these edges may be more of a detractor to you than they were to me.

I always wanted a good star wars game based on one of the movies with all lightsaber fighting, and now i finally got it and i couldnt be more happy. i havnt got very far on it yet because im trying to hold back from playing it to much before i see the movie. but this game is very fun and very addicting, it is by far the best star wars game ever made and also the best movie based game ever 2 come out i thought lord of the rings 3 had the top spot for best movie based game but this one crushes that game.there is only 2 down sides to this game that arnt even a very big deal to me but the graphics i thought were gona be a lil bit beter than they are but there still prety good and the other thing is they should let you pick if you wana be obi wan or anakin and not switch you every other level because anakin is way beter and i love bein him and bein obi wan just isnt as fun.but the 2 down sides arnt a very big deal and you forget about them as soon as you start playin the game again. for every one out there that loves star wars pick up this game you will be very happy wit it and it lives up to all the hype and the movie.
Short but Sweet June 8, 2005 vendetta89 (Orangevale, CA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Star Wars Episode 3 may dissapoint some hardcore gamers, but for fans of Star Wars, it will no doubt entertain. The RotS game is a very fun play. It has a somewhat deep combat system (not as deep as the Lord of the Rings games)The actuall combat moves arent mapped out like in the lord of the rings games, but different combos of buttons will produce different moves. RotS is a good looking game. Some elements arent particularly great, but it still looks good. The lightsaber animations are phenominal, although the majority of animations arent so hot. The character models are good, the enviroments are ok, some blanness shows here and there, and if there is a big explosion the framerate drops a tad. Now, while it is a good, even above average, game, I have to say it is one of the shortest games I have ever played. On the hardest difficulty, you can beat it in 5 - 6 hours. The levels were probably drug out as much as possible, but they could have added a space fight level, like in the begining of the movie, or levels that dont revolve around just Anakin and Obi-Wan. Like maybe some clone vs. battledroid levels where you play as Mace Windu, or a level where you play as Yoda and you fight Emporer Palpatine. Additions like this would have added serious time to the game, and a bigger fun factor. While the games combat has different fight combos, it isnt forced enough. You can get through the game by hack-n-slashing. Overall, if you are a fan of the movie, you will undoubtably love this great addition. Concept- Make the ultimate Jedi simulator Presintation- 8.3- The box art is good, the menues are nice and polished, and there is scenes from the movie woven into the game. Graphics- 8.0- Overall, very nice. Some good lightsaber animations and some good enviroments, but mostly everything is good to par. Sound- 9.0- Star Wars games always sound good. My only problem with the sound is almost all the voiceovers during gameplay are almost as bad as in the movie. Gameplay- 8.1- Combat is fun, could have been deeper, and the force powers are used well. The levels are particularly done well, but are ok. The camera has some problems too. Playability- 8.4- you can get through the game hack-n-slashing. But it still is good. Overall- 8.0 - Good game, could have been better (like most Star Wars games) Star Wars fan boys will love it. Replay Value- 8.5- You probably wont play the single player campaign much after you beat it, but there are so many unlockable levls (including one great level where you play as Yoda) Two player duels with unlockable characters and arenas (including darth vader and ben kenobi in the original Death Star)
