4 out of 5 stars Fun Basic Platformer for Garfield Fans   December 31, 2006

Garfield and his Nine Lives is a GameBoy Advance adventure game featuring the always hungry tabby cat and his cartoon friends.

The game is a side scrolling adventure much like Super Mario, but featuring Garfield as the main character. He can run, jump, and kick enemies. He goes through a series of themed levels such as a circus, farm, haunted house, and other interesting locations. In each ones the enemies are what you might expect - foxes, ghosts, bats, and so on. Nothing overly scary, and while many of them are challenging, they're all quite doable even for youngsters.

There are three difficulty settings, so that tykes and adults can find a challenge they will enjoy. Also, you can have the dialogue in English, Spanish or French - so if you're trying to learn a new language, this could be a fun way to do it! Not that there's a lot of talk in this game. You get a few quips and jokes along the way, but that's about it.

Each level has a basic task - gather up the eggs, find the key. Each game also has bonus tasks - find all the coffee cups. Back on the main screen, you can see which levels you've beaten and what remains on each one, as well as what difficulty you took that level on. That way you can work on levels one at a time, choosing your favorites and ramping the difficulty up step by step until you can get a perfect score on the hardest level.

The sounds are what you'd expect from a GameBoy Advance title - cutesy music and silly sound effects.

You eat lasagna to regain your health, of course!

There are some downsides here. Some of the monsters can become quite annoying. For example, one enemy "bounces you back" - and you can get between two of them, and they get you stuck in the middle. I had one monster bounce me back "into" a decorative box, and it was a few minutes before the game let me get back out of it again.

Still, the game is great fun for Garfield fans.

1 out of 5 stars Very poor, tacked together cash-in game.   March 4, 2007

I am so disappointed with this Garfield game for many reasons. Let me begin by saying that the graphics are great and the music is very sweet. I have to say that my judgment is not all negative, but the gameplay is the worst in the history of all video-games ever. You think I'm exaggerating?

Basically, all you have to do is run around a generic level collecting things and occasionally discovering a secret room. Even something as novice as this could have been fun if the controls were not totally useless. It's a very difficult game to navigate through especially since the physics of touching baddies and dangerous objects just doesn't seem right.

I finally just abandoned the game since there was obviously no point in taking it all the way to the end. I just wasn't enjoying it and I regret buying it. At least is was cheap.

This is a fun game but, hard at first! In the first level you have to collect all the eggs on the arbuckle farm before the fox eat them all! The Second level is easy you have find you way out of a haunted house you have to get rid of the ghosts to get the key!!the third level you have to get through the circus and the monkeys like the throw stuff at you so watch out!! the third level your in the sewers with spiders and mice watch out fo them to get through the level!!

3 out of 5 stars Cute game, but not challenging...   August 29, 2007

Me and my 4 year old son really enjoyed this game. We played it for weeks after we bought it, and beat all the levels, now we really don't play it anymore. It has great graphics, and you go around and collect different kinds of food on each level. A couple levels were tricky but once I figured it out it became easy. Its a great game for young children and parents who just like a cute straight forward game without any guessing games.

4 out of 5 stars Decent!!   January 16, 2008

It's very quick, but it's cheap so that makes up for the very short game play. It took me a couple hours to beat it. The first level is very easy but you can choose to play on easy, medium or hard. It does get harder as the game goes on and the graphics are very good for a hand held system!! Garfield looks very realistic in this game.
