Bookworm

BOOKWORM is a game where the screen is filled with tiles with letters on them. You have to spell words, and as you do the tiles disappear and get replaced while your score grows. There are special BONUS tiles worth more points, and also red tiles that you have to use or the game is over when they reach the bottom level. This is a great puzzle game!

But be warned! It's addictive and "one short game" can turn into an hour and a half! A great feature on the GBA version is you can SAVE YOUR GAME, so you don't have to finish before you turn the system off. It also records your highest scores and best words. No multiplayer options. I love this game because it is what the Gameboy does best! Simple graphics and easy controls married with a game good for car trips, airplanes, or anywhere you need a break! So to me it's having one of your favorite computer games loaded onto your palm sized video game system!

Bookworm on the GBA is fun if you like word games. My kids enjoy it though it may get frustrating for early readers.
Graphics are almost identical to the PC game and it has the same feel, and hte sound is almost the same, but there are some missing features such as the definitions that come up when you submit a less common word. My 9 year old missed that feature from the computer version.
My only complaint with the game is that while it is terrific in its simplicity, it quickly becomes a challenge just to beat your own high score and generate words with more points. Once you reach Supreme Bookworm, which may be fairly soon, there are no more in-game goals. The bonus words start recycling and the challenge doesn't ramp up.
It is still a lot of fun and I'm glad they did not include off-color and swear words, though there are some fairly commonly used words not included, but I was hoping for something new given that the computer version has been out for a while. I'd also appreciate more gameplay options, maybe something along scrabble lines for younger players to create words out of random tiles for points or maybe an anagram game.

My favorite GBA game is Legend of Zelda Link to the Past and my kids favorites are the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire versions. These games have an incredible depth of play.

Think of it like Tetris only with letters in the blocks. You've got to link up letters to make words and use the red hot blocks right away before they blow up your whole game. Sound easy? It's not. My longest word so far has been 8 letters. And did I mention the music is very, very cute.

I've played the PC version, which, unlike the GBA version keeps high scores and has online ranking. There are online scores of about 50 billion. I don't think I'll be beating it.

This is a great game. My husband purchased it for me because I enjoy the computer version, but now my kids are hooked. I wish that there were more "educational" type games for the gameboy. Three of our friends went out and purchased the gameboy sp system solely because they wanted to play bookworm after we introduced them to it. I do wish that the gameboy version had the definitions option that the computer game offers.

I received my bookworm this week and it is great. I am 70 years old and just love my gameboy. I like the puzzle games. I will be glad when you get new puzzle games. I play the bookworm on my computer and now I can play it anywhere. I also have super collapes.
