Not your ordinary GBA game though runs sluggish. June 15, 2004 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Finally, a game for the GBA system that cannot be beaten in one day. The possibilities are endless. Great for those long trips. My only complaint is that at times, during certain scenarios, there seems to be too much going on for the cartridge to handle. I thought playing it on the gamecube using the gameboy player would solve this problem but it didn't. Can be quite frustrating when fires are breaking out and the cursor just doesn't want to budge.
Great fun but only if management games are your thing December 8, 2003 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
According to an earlier review, "The worst game i ever played, on the back it shows these tall buildings and even when i zoom in the buildings are blue and green squares. i hate this game. The only thing i liked was destroying the town (because it was so stupid)."As a matter of fact the game will look exactly like the pictures on the back provided that you build roads and a power grid. When you first allocate land for residential, commercial or industrial usage all you get is the coloured squares. Whack in a power station and transit and you're away. Buildings will sprout up. Anyway, that aside, this is basically the more simplified Sim City 1 concept but with graphics ported over from the PC Sim City 2000. It's not a straight port (nothing like as complex) but it's good hand-held entertainment and you get the warm glow of wielding power over a whole bunch of Sims on the bus/train etc. Top notch.
Not disappointed April 3, 2004 jeff (Spring Hill, Florida USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
this game is pretty much as fun as I wanted it to be. With the consideration that this is a handheld the graphics are very good. In he game you are the mayor and you nead to build a city. You do this by zoning areas of land with residental, commercial, and industrial zoning. You then build roads connecting these different zones and you build a power plant(there is a variety of powerplant types available, example:nuclear, coal, oil, solar) and you build power lines to supply these areas with power. Then the sims move in and make builings. The game also includes natural disasters and sometimes the citezens will riot. How much your citezens riot can be controlled by how happy they are with the city you build for them. Other buildings available in the game are police stations, hospitals, school, prisons, parks, and many other public and governmant building. As your city grows you might want to add airport zoning and seaport zoning so that sims can come in and make airports and seaports, thus making connections with other cities and improving commerce and business. The draw backs are that there are no cars seen on the road or trains a traintracks. Another disadvantage is that I found that when I build railroads and bus stations, they tell me I have 0 passengers per day.It is also very hard to build a succesful school(My schools always have like 60 teachers and 3 students and it is graded F). The game also glitches up sometimes but that is really not a big problem. And another fun thing about the game is when your cities population grows you get reward builings. If you like these types of games then I strongly think that you will be happy with buying this game.
Gets old real fast January 15, 2004 Louise Kabu 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I love the Sim city series, but this was just a huge disappointment. I got bored of playing it in less than two days. There's so little options to build, plus there's no animations, as people have mentioned before: no cars or trains or people in the stadiums. There are boats and planes though. I know it's a handheld game so they couldn't put too much on there but come on! I remember playing the first Sim City when it came out in the early 90s and it was much better than this. The game also got slow when a monster attacked it, and sometimes has a few other problems such as police stations becoming invisible and train and bus stations not having any passengers riding on it (Is this just me or do other people have this problem??)
Pretty Good January 13, 2004 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
All things considered this is a very good copy of the PC game. Pros: Nice graphics, fairly easy controls, lots of features (like disasters) can be turned on/off individually or or all turned on/off. Construction is easy, and described well in the instructions. Cons: Eye strain (headache) from the dark screen (you need pretty good light for this one.) No cars driving around, no people in the stadium, or a train running around town. When you're zoomed out far enough to see the whole city, there is very little detail. When zoomed in to see the streets and buildings, it's a pain to scroll all over the place to see other parts of the city. (Guess you can only do so much with a portable.)I find the game to get a little boring after awhile, but I felt the same way about the PC version. The instructions could offer more advice about running the city. Even though I'm not a "Sim-Head" I find it interesting enough to recommend. This would be a great buy if you love Sim City.
