Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The HBH-PV705 is almost too good to be true. Twelve hours of talk time and 300 hours standby time is an outstanding achievement from a product of the size of the HBH-PV705. Weighing a mere 14 grams, it can be worn and used for hours on end, in the car, during your working day and at home. The pen-shaped form gives better performance and more discretion than you might expect. All Sony Ericsson wireless headsets have been developed in coordination with Sony Ericsson mobile phones and offer perfectly matched handsfree solutions.

5 out of 5 stars Finally! a Bluetooth headset that works great   December 8, 2006

I have tried 10 or more different Bluetooth headsets since they have come out, and to be quite honest, they suck. Bad sound, bad connections, and horrible battery life, there is nothing better than the wired headset, until now.
I have a Samsung D900 cell phone and the proprietary wired headset is not comfortable, so I went looking for yet another Bluetooth headset. I have always been partial to the Sony Ericsson brand, the build quality is high and the way the charger connects (it's the little things) is firm and secure.

I own the previous model to this one (HBH-PV700) and the battery life is horrible, the only time I use it is at home where I can connect it to the charger between calls. The HBH-PV705 is everything that the other one wants to be, it connects easy (I have a Samsung and Palm Treo) to any brand of Bluetooth phone, the call clarity is great and the battery life is fantastic, I have been using it for a week of 1 hour+ talk per day, and have not had to charge it yet, I do shut it off at night when not being used.

The only thing that takes a little getting used to is when you receive a call, you hit the button on the Bluetooth headset and you have to wait a fraction of a second for it to beep, then say hello. I found myself saying hello a couple of times at first but now I am used to it, that is a small difference between Bluetooth and a wired headset. As I said before, the battery life on this unit is amazing, yet it is extremely light weight on your ear, with above average call clarity, that alone lets me award this headset five stars.

4 out of 5 stars Great basic headset   March 20, 2007

I've had about a weekend of use and so far I have a pretty good feel for this headset. I am using this with a Samsung M610 on the Sprint network.

DESIGN: First off, it is very light weight and the size of it is great. This is my first Bluetooth headset so I don't really have much to compare to. The only thing about the design that bothers me is the earhook. It is a bit stiff. The only part that bends is the part that doesn't make a difference; the end of the earhook that sits behind your ear. I am not quite sure why that part was made to conform. If the part that rests on your ears was the bendable part, that would have been much better. It hurt my ear a bit at first (after wearing it for awhile) but after I got used to it, it is quite comfortable. I'd also like to note that I wear glasses.

The buttons have a cheap feel to them but the unit itself seems pretty solid.

BATTERY LIFE: I usually turn the headset off at night when I go to sleep and it stays off all day because I am unable to use my cell phone at work. But so far, I'd estimate my talk time to be around 6.5 hours and it is still going strong. I am still on my initial charge. Even though I do keep the headset off when I know I will not use it for an extended period of time, the talk time is the most important part and I am happy that it has not shown any signs of the battery dying yet.

SOUND QUALITY: It is good but not great. At first I noticed a lot of dead air in my calls and my caller's voice was quite soft. I used the phone's BT volume and turned it all the way up and then I turned down the headset volume. The result was that the dead air was minimized and voice was clearer. On the whole though, the volume is a bit softer than I would like and dead air is still quite prevalent at higher headset levels. My girlfriend says I sound fine though and she does not hear any echoing on her end. Nor do I hear it on mine. I have not yet tried this headset out while driving.

RANGE: I am very pleased with the range, although sometimes I will get slight static when the phone is near me. I was able to go into another room while leaving the phone in my room. There was no static at all. That was about 20 ft. away. With my phone in that same spot, I was able to walk down my stairs in my house before it got really bad and I couldn't understand my caller. I would estimate the distance to be around 25-30 ft.

My reason for 4 stars is because of the earhook being a bit stiff and because there is a lot of dead air when you turn the volume up to higher levels. Aside from those two things, this is a great headset if you aren't looking for anything fancy.

5 out of 5 stars Light, Comfortable, Great Battery   September 28, 2006

At first I thought this headset was horribly uncomfortable. Turns out unlike most headsets, the speaker doesn't go right over your ear, which I was trying to force it to do. It sits higher up on your ear so it doesn't block any outside sounds, and you can therefore wear the headset all the time, and not have it affect conversations with people around you when not on a call.

Once I learnt how to use it, it became a breeze to throw onto your ear. It's very comfortable and lightweight. Just wore it back and forth on a 3 hour drive each way, and it wasn't bothersome at all. The sound quality is quite good, and the headset can go pretty loud. I am using the SE w810, and the headset and phone use the same charger, which is also really convenient.

The main reason I switched to this headset, was to get an SE headset, now that I have an SE phone, and it sure made a difference. Calls now switch right over to the headset when turning it on during a call. The headset answers immediately when picking up a call, rather than hearing the ringtone in the headset for another few seconds. The volume on the headset and the handset both affect the headset while in use. There's probably other things I didn't notice yet as well, but this headset definitely works great with SE phones.

5 out of 5 stars Very good headset!!! 100% Recommended   January 16, 2007

Overall - a great headset! Very light weight, you will forget you wear it! Sound is clear and relatively deep, can be very loud ( if adjusted volume is high). Absolutely no echo! Doesn't occlude your ear so you can hear everything around you if your set is not in use. Battery life is long enough. Professionals strongly advise to use the same brand headset as your phone! If your phone is Motorola, buy only Motorola headset. Samsung with Samsung etc. Same brand works best together. I have Sony Ericsson w810i, works excellent with Sony Ericsson Bluetooth HBH-PV705 headset . Also, I can use the same charger for my phone and headset, it's really convenient! The only problem is that I normally hold my phone against my left year, therefore, I put my headset on a left ear too, but after about 20 min It becomes uncomfortable, a little bit too tight. When I put it on my right ear-no problem, can wear it for hours. So comfort depends on individual's outer ear structure as well. Bottom line - it's a great headset. Very happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars Great product for first time headset user   May 15, 2007

This is the first BT headset I have owned and I am completely satisfied with this product. I had tried the "in-the-ear" headsets and never purchased one due to the uncomfortable fit and muffling of environmental sound when not using the headset. The fit of this hs takes a little getting used to because it never really feels "seated." But once you get used to the fact that it sits *on* the ear rather than *in* it, you'll love being able to talk and listen to the radio without taking it out. Very comfortable, but I only use it a couple of hours at a time.

Quality seems very good, but the comments about the creaky buttons are accurate, but this is a very minor issue. Call quality is good incoming and outgoing. Only once or twice has anyone guessed I was on a headset. Volume is good, and this was the main reason I wanted a headset; the volume on my SE W810i was not quite loud enough when driving. Maybe it's because I am using the same brand for phone and headset, but I have never had a problem connecting or setting up the hs.

Range seems pretty good, but I don't have a basis for comparison. I get good reception 30-50 feet from the handset in the open, and 15-20 feet through walls.

All in all, a great headset at a great price. Highly recommended.
