5 out of 5 stars They are the best bottles, and you can prevent the leaking!   November 1, 2004

My 2 month old daughter loves these bottles. I love them also, because my daughter had a problem, with reflux and the doctor told me to put a tablespoon of rice cereal in each bottle. When I 1st heard this I went to the supermarket to by a the colorful gerber bottles because the nipples were cheap since I thought I was going to have to cut them for the cereal to get through. With the Avent bottles the cereal passes through without being cut. She won't take any other nipple. As for the leaking--I never had a problem with them leaking but my husband made a bottle for me and he over tightened it and it leaked. Just screw them on lightly, and if your still nervous then turn it over to see if it leaks before you take it to the baby. I hope this review helps other mothers, especially if your baby has reflux, because you don't have to cut thew nipples!

1 out of 5 stars Very dissapointed!   November 18, 2004

When using these bottles with my newborn, stage 1 flow was very fast for her. The nipples are very hard (not like the breast at all). She would get alot of gas when using these bottles. I switched to Platex Ventaire and we both loved them. Those bottles are a hundred times better.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Start with a Starter Set!   December 1, 2004

These bottles look so nice and are so durable BUT they only offer one kind of nipple and are not compatible with any other system, so if you child doesn't like thier nipple, you're heavily invested in a huge set that is useless. And Avent is SO expensive! Niether of my boys liked these bottles/nipples. I primarily breastfeed and the shape of these nipples are nothing like mine. The silicone is the wrong texture too - nothing like the real thing.
If you really like the look of Avent and think you want to use them, buy just one bottle and nipple to start until you are sure they work.
In my opinion, a much better starter system is the Playtex (I use the Drop-Ins) - it comes with several different nipple shapes to try, including latex, which has a more realistic texture.
I foolishly bought the Avent starter set because someone somewhere told me that they were the most breastfeeder friendly and that companies that make bottles AND formula only want to sabatoge your brreastfeeding efforts - - what a silly and paranoid accusation that turned out to be!

5 out of 5 stars Great Bottles   February 8, 2005

I really don't understand why people are having such problems with these bottles. My son has used them for a year now and I think that they are great. I've only had a couple of leaks, and the remedy is to unscrew the cap completely and put it back on again. Voila! No more leak. In a year of bottles, we have only experienced this a handful of times...really nothing that I'd complain about. I would highly recommend them to anyone who asked!

3 out of 5 stars An honest review   April 11, 2005

I registered for the Avent line because I was going to breasfeed and bottle feed. Avent bottles were great because you could pump, store, and feed all in one. Overall I was not pleased with these bottles. Conveinient yes, but that was the best thing about them. I read the instructions, and half the time they would leak. I would retry capping it but sometimes it leaked sometimes it didn't. As for the flow, the newborn nipple was to fast for my son. Most of the time he was gagging, choking, or the formula was pouring out of the side of his mouth. He did not latch on very well to these nipples. He developed a blister on his top lip from the hard silicone. Some babies may latch on better than others. Some may suck faster than others. My son took in a lot of air which lead to a very gassy, fussy, unhappy baby. After about 3 1/2 weeks I decided to try a different bottle. The playtex drop ins. We are having a lot of success. We still use the Avent bottles to make and store formula so it wasn't a total waste. My advice would be to buy a few and try them out before you invest in the whole line.
