LATCH great, seatbelt iffy June 9, 2008 froglegs 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We got great installs in both our cars with LATCH. But of course since LATCH is only good up to a certain weight, you will have to do a belt install eventually. For us this did not work--yes, we read the manual and yes, we had someone help us. In some cars there simply isn't enough belt to do the long belt path install and the short belt path doesn't get tight enough. The installation difficulties make me hesitant to recommend the seat, and I'm not sure that I would purchase a seat that was $[...] and required a lot of finagling to install properly. For the price I would have thought that, like the Britax convertibles, it would be easier. But if it works in your vehicle, I think it's an excellent choice.
Great product June 13, 2008 C.C. (North Carolina) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We changed to this car seat from the Marathon because our 5 year old daughter wanted to use the car seat belt since the harness was getting too snug for her. I wasn't sure that this was a good idea since I loved the marathon and she was so secure in it. I relented only for an other Britax. I was not disappointed and in fact I love the new features on this. At first we were like everyone else with the seat securing into the vehicle but with some patience, and reading the new instructions that were inserted with the seat, we figured it out. I did however have to change back to the harness, which is much roomier then the Marathon, since the buckle part in our 2003 Envoy wasn't long enough for her to buckle in and I had to get into the back seat to do it every time. But she is okay with this since the harness is built for kids up to 80lbs so there is much more flexibility in placement. Overall we have loved our Britax models and I'm so glad that I did some research on car seats. I've seen some that are so flimsy and I just can't do that to my precious cargo.
EASY to INSTALL, safe carseat--love it! June 20, 2008 Daisy M. Mcconnell (Colorado Springs, CO. United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just installed the Frontier in our Mazda CX-7. It was hard to fork over the money, and we have never had a Britax before. Previous carseat was an Evenflo, it was supposed to be comparable to the Britax Roundabout. Well, there is NO comparison. I have two kids and have gone through my fair number of car seats. We have never had one install so easy or be so completely stable once installed. This thing DOES NOT MOVE once installed!!! It's great, I've never gotten a car seat to install so perfectly. And . . . the way they've designed the LATCH attachments is why. They tighten on each side, independently. So easy--no more tearing up your hand reaching down between the seats to attach and unattach the anchors. What a nightmare, getting the old car seat out my fingers were already torn up from trying to undo the anchors and get the straps loose. With the Frontier, you just clip in on each side. I had to readjust the height of the car seat straps after I had installed the seat (which is also really easy to do, just slide it up in the back, awesome!), so I had to undo the clips. I normally DREAD moving carseats once they are tightened in, so was cursing under my breath just thinking about the ordeal ahead. Well, all I had to do was press a red button on each side, and the clips pop right off. WOW! I slid the straps up, then just clipped it right back into place. The combination of ease of installation, stability of installation, and how much my kiddo likes it won us all over. Now I just have to convince him to stay in a 5-pt harness until he is 80 lbs. ;-) Highly recommend this product to other parents.
You Need to know which way to install it for your use... June 25, 2008 L. Mclain (Michigan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the 4th Britax seat I have purchased. I bought the Frontier to replace an Advantage (glorified Roundabout) that my 3 year old daughter outgrew (95% height and weight). I also replaced a Marathon from another car even though she could still use that but I liked how the Frontier was a littler lower to the seat and thought it would be easier for her to get in herself. My 5 year old has the Britax Parkway booster which is my least favorite of the Britax seats and that is probably why they discontinued it. I was pleased when they came out with the Frontier with the 5 point harness. I installed the Frontier in my Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan last night. Because she is just shy of the 40 lb limit for LATCH I had to use the seatbelt. The short belt path was too loose. Had to use the long belt path and it was very secure. It was a bit harder to install because the seatbelt only comes out so far and I had to bounce on the seat with my weight to get it to buckle. The next morning when my daughter rode in it for the first time, I analyzed it and realized the van seatback was reclined too much. She needed to be more upright like her brother in the parkway. Well, that was a lot harder to install with the seat not as reclined. It was a REAL challenge to get it buckled. I tried the short belt path again for giggles but it was just too loose. I was sweating by the time I finally got it buckled. Then, being a bit of a worrier, I wondered if it wasn't as safe with the buckle stretched to its limits. So I easily attached the LATCH anchors as a "back-up". Peace of mind is really all it was. I only gave it 4 stars because the long belt path is much harder to install than the short belt path. It seems like the long belt path was an "afterthought" after so many people were having difficulties with the original short belt path. I still have to install my second seat into a Cadillac DTS when my husband returns from out-of-town. I am guessing because it is a car it will be much easier to install. Overall, you can't beat Britax's quality. When we bought our first Britax (The Advantage) I had to do the sales pitch on my husband. He chose to purchase a much cheaper brand (Cosco) for his car. Needless to say he had it in our garage sale no more than 6 months later and I purchased a second seat (the Marathon) and never looked back! The Frontier is nice and roomy and the side "wings" are not too big as in the Parkway booster. My daughter says it was more comfortable but then again she is only 3 and she thinks unicorns are real.
Great seat - happy with purchase May 2, 2008 Toy Shopper1004 (CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I already owned a Britax Wizard, but needed to get a new seat for my child. I was considering the Britax Regent to keep her in a 5 pint harness as long as possible when I saw that they were going to launch the Frontier. We also looked at the Graco Nautilus and has our daughter sit in it at the store. She dwarfed it and she is average for her size. I just did not see her being able to make it 3 more years in the Nautilus. As for the Frontier, for something so expensive, I was leary about buying it online, but no stores had it on stock yet, so I took the plunge. I did read other reviews and was scared that installation would be a problem, but decided to try anyway. I am glad I did. It is worth the money. My daughter fits in it much better. There is more room tht the Nautilus on the sides and it actually takes up a little less space than the Wizard. There is more room at her feet. Since I read the reviews and new how to install it using latch, I did not have any problems with installation. My daughter loves her new big girl seat and we are happy to be able to keep her in a harness longer. I would recommend the seat to others.
