5 out of 5 stars "This Stroller Changed My Life"   July 6, 2007

Forgive the dramatic title for this review, but really, this stroller is fantastic. I have a 1-year-old and a 5-year-old and it's the best thing that happened to me this summer. We had a Peg Perego which we loved, but the tiny platform on the back required the 5-year-old to do awkward contortions in order to hang on. We've been using the Joovy for about two months now, and so far, so good. It was a cinch to put together (I did it myself in about 10 minutes), and it really is incredibly lightweight for a double stroller. As previous reviewers have mentioned, its one disadvantage is its length. We do not have minivans, but the Joovy fits in the back of both of our Subarus. In the Impreza hatchback, it takes up the entire back. If you remove the front snack tray as well as the sun shade, you can buy yourself a bit more space. But because this stroller makes getting around so easy, I do not begrudge the space it requires. It folds up flat, and easily. The roller-blade technology used for the wheels does make for a smooth ride (and push). The stroller navigates bumpy Philadelphia sidewalks easily (the seat belt for the child sitting in the back works well to keep him from sliding off when the bumps are big or unexpected). I have noticed that the stroller veers a bit like a car with tires that need to be re-aligned when my 46-pound 5-year-old is on the back. I think that the stroller is just straining a bit carrying 70 pounds of kids. When the 1-year-old is in the stroller by himself, it's not a problem. Moreover, the 5-year-old is tall for his age, but he still fits nicely on the back, sitting or standing. He ducks a bit when the sun shade goes down over his part of the stroller, but he's yet to complain as I think he's just happy to be riding. Finally, as one of the posters said, the Parent Organizer that comes packaged free with this stroller is great--it holds water bottles, keys, wallets. Everywhere I go, at least one person stops me to ask me about the stroller. That's no reason to buy something, but it certainly reminds me why I did.

1 out of 5 stars Needs lots of fixin up!   September 25, 2007

In theory this stroller was great.....but then I got it and all heck broke loose!!

First of all, if you are using a car seat in the front it pushes the seat back so far that the toddler has to arch their back to sit down (my son is only two and a half).

Second, my toddler's feet could touch the ground. This meant that I had to be really careful backing up b/c I could catch the back of his feet
on the stroller. Also, when I would stop, he would pedal the stroller away with my six week old in it. When I put the locks on he could just bend over and take the locks off (even when he was strapped in). And he liked to put his feet on the wheels while I was pushing.

Third, if he was standing he wanted to face me, but the platform only allows them to face forward. If he did face forward he was poking at the baby the whole time, and then he figured out that he could turn around and grab the bar where my hands were and pick up his feet and hang there--very dangerous as the stroller could flip if the baby and car seat were not in it.

Fourth, because he faced the back when sitting on the seat, my son couldn't see anything, which was boring for him and led him to find mischief--like unlocking the brakes or dragging his feet.

I really wanted this stroller to be great and was sad that I had to take it back, but it wasn't worth the headache! I thought for the price it would have been better. This is all stuff that I wish someone would have told me before I bought it!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Stroller   October 3, 2007

I have been using this stroller since my 2nd son was born 7 weeks ago. My oldest son is 2 1/2 years old. I am very very happy with this stroller. I like to walk every day and this is perfect.
It rides very smoothly. It folds up smaller than I thought it would (it fits in the trunk of our small Saturn). It is very easy to fold and unfold. It is very sturdy and well made. My oldest likes to have options (sit, stand facing forward, stand facing backward, walk).
Others have mentioned problems with the back seat. I have had no problems with having room for my son. If he is going to stand we push the seat forward and if he is going to sit we pull it back toward us. Yes, his feet will drag on the ground if he lets them hang over - but I tell him not to and he stops. I don't see how hanging feet is a problem with the design of the stroller. When he sits he does have to lean forward a very little bit. He has done that for long periods of time and has not complained. It is obvious that the jump seat on the back is dsigned to sit for short periods of time and to allow an active toddler to climb on and off - not for reclining and long comfy rides. Again, not a design flaw, just the fact of this stroller. If you want both of your kids to recline then you need to buy a double stroller.
I have not had a problem with the size of the basket either. But I will say that I never carry a big huge daiper bag. Just a small one with the basics. If I need a bigger bag for day trips or whatever I carry a back pack.
This stroller serves our needs perfectly. We did not want a huge double stroller (we have a small car and we travel to Europe alot and those big strollers just don't fit in small European stores) and our 2 1/2 year old will not sit still if strapped in anyway. This stroller allows me to walk with both our kids while allowing the toddler freedom. I am going on a trip to Europe for Christmas and I am eager to use this stroller in the airport and on the streets of Europe.
I bought this at Babies R Us where it was much cheaper.

4 out of 5 stars Get the ultralight!   June 10, 2007

After looking at both the standard Joovy Caboose and the Sit n' Stand, my husband and I decided on the Joovy Caboose Ultralight -- and we are very glad that we did. Our 2 year old loves it (in both the standing and sitting positions), and it's very easy to steer through tiny store aisles.

I had read reviews saying that the storage basket underneath is difficult to access, but I have not found this to be the case (you simply access it from the side). Also, store models of the Sit n' Stand showed a lot of wear and tear on the fabric (rips, fraying, etc.), whereas the fabric on the Caboose seems much more resilient and of higher quality.

We liked the fact that the Ultralight version came with the parent organizer (a real help), and you can never go wrong with a lighter stroller.

The only way I can see to improving the Caboose Ultralight is to actually make it lighter (I was a little surprised at how heavy it is), and it's very hard to snap the toddler seat in place.

Overall, we would highly recommend this stroller.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent for a Toddler and a Baby in the suburbs   August 27, 2007

PROs:

*Excellent handling: I love the way this stroller handles. On good pavement and in stores, it turns with ease even one-handed. I've also taken it to Farmers' Markets and had to push it over large gravel, and the large wheels move it along well there too.

*It's a breeze to get my kids in and out. My daughter (2 1/2) hasn't tried standing, but she loves her "chair" in back, and also to fasten her buckle (Yes, lucky me). For the infant seat, I just drop the carseat in.

*The sunshade is nice and big to offer enough shade for both kids.

*I like that the handles for the parent and for the standing toddler are both foam padded. They're an easy and comfortable grip.

*Easy breakdown and set-up. With the carseat attachment (longest) it fits in the trunk of my Honda Accord -- no wiggle room.

*Good handle height. I'm 5'10", and my husband is 6'3" and we are both comfortable pushing this. A couple of shorter friends (5'5" ??) also found it comfortable.

*Attractive, durable fabric.

CONs:

*This is definitely designed for a bigger toddler in back, and a baby or small toddler in front. The footrest is definitely too short for my 2.5yo, who is more the size of a 3.5yo, and the back seat may be too tall for a shorter child.

*The basket is small, but is adequate for basics (wipes, diapers, snacks) not a hulking diaper bag. I usually wear my bag on my back anyhow. The basket is accessable from the sides -- it has elastic around the top.

*Sitting toddler can put her feet on the ground or the wheels. This is the case with most strollers, and aren't all toddlers michevious at times?

One area that I'd like to see improved in their next model would be: Put a cover or short wall at the edge of the jumpseat's footrest which would keep stray feet from accidentally putting the break on, or rubbing on the wheel.

Overall I think that this stroller is worth the money. I didn't test drive many, but this one is easy to handle, store (lays flat, not on it's end), and clean.

This was my second choice, but my first choice "Phil & Teds E3Phil & Teds E3 Buggy Single Black Orange" with the "DoublesSport Doubles Kit - Charcoal" kit cost a great deal more. (Very cool stroller if you have (and want to spend) that kind of dough.)
