Tiffen filters use cheap, optically low-grade "GREEN" glass. Get a Hoya UV filter. It's only $6 more.

Great Value for Basic Necessities May 26, 2001 40 out of 41 found this review helpful
These really are the essential filters. I keep the UV protector on my lens anytime I'm not using another filter just to protect the lens. The circular polarizer is fantastic. It is amazing how often it is needed. You simply turn the filter until you find the point where glare disappears. I've used it for everything from eliminating glare from the Plexiglas in ice skating rinks and windows to the midday sun glare. It's fantastic. The warming filter comes in very handy in landscape and portraits. I've used it most in outdoor portraits to enhance that warm sunset feel. Three filters everyone should have. They even come in a nice case.
Sunglasses for your camera February 7, 2001 Mr. M. J. Christian (Sacramento, CA USA) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Ever seen those photos of rivers and waterfalls where the water is all blurred and misty? This filter can help you achieve that and other effects. It drastically cuts down the light passing through your lens, forcing slower shutter speeds that will give the blur effect. This is the strongest ND filter, you may want to look at the 0.6 or 0.3 for a less noticable effect. Also, be prepared to use a tripod. This filter will easily push your shutter speed into multiple seconds, so you'd have to have one.
Good Effects April 25, 2001 13 out of 37 found this review helpful
Great lens if you know how to use it properly. The transition allows you to incorporate beautiful effects to your image, but is not recommended for beginner photographers. It is not a general purpose lens like the UV Haze or polarizer filters. It instead, seems to be a very specific case type lens.
