A fun accessory; tough too October 21, 2006 James T. King (Chagrin Falls, OH USA) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
This thoughtful piece of interlocking spheres, reminiscent of a toy my kids used to have - I played also - , makes a great companion for the Canon G3 I have, given both its weight and remote control functions. I first saw the smaller model but wanted a wide enough base to shoot vertically at stars for ex. This hit that sweet spot for me. Also, the unit's rigidity allows it to become a "handle" wielding the camera-head, hatchet-like. I am expecting it to outlast the earth it's on, given its polymer base. I would like to have taken this next step from the toys of twenty years ago! This is design engineering at its best.
Not great for long exposures. December 12, 2006 Cape Codder (Cape Cod, MA) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
For long exposures you really need a traditional tripod and not this. The flex in the legs means that you'll have movement for a heavy SLR ( I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi). With that said, it's very well made and the tripod is useful for other duty and also is a great handhold. I recommend their lighter model (or even this one) for lighter point and shoots on long exposures but heavy cameras do not stay stable for long enough on this. Still a useful part of your kit however.
waste of money December 2, 2006 Graham S. Sherrington (Ft Myers Florida) 13 out of 28 found this review helpful
bought the SLR version for my nikon D70s connected it up tried to use it on a verticle pipe and it flopped all over the place not stable at all. Would not take the weight as stated.
Great product! December 28, 2006 C. Hughes 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This model, the SLR-ZOOM Gorillapod, is designed without a quick release mount so you can use your own tripod head. If you don't have your own tripod head or plan to get one, you should probably look into the original Gorillapod or the SLR Gorillapod. The SLR-ZOOM Gorillapod can support an amazing 6.6 lbs. Great product!
great for lightweight cameras September 27, 2006 kittenscribble (Washington, DC) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is an awesome product. The rubber grips hold on to just about anything, anywhere. We've attached it securely to lampposts, gates, and trees. Very convenient for nighttime or long-exposure photography, much easier than lugging around a heavy full-sized tripod. It's also very portable; we keep it clamped onto the strap of the camera bag when not in use. My only caution would be to pay careful attention to the weight limit. I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend and belatedly discovered that his heavier camera tended to collapse the Gorillapod when it was used as a normal tripod. However, when the Gorillapod is used to grip onto less standard surfaces, it holds up his camera just fine. And it has no problem with my lighter camera.
