I LOVE THIS! January 23, 2001 Lisa Schaad (Knoxville, TN USA) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this ice cream maker. I love it. My 4 1/2 year old son made strawberry yogurt last night. It's so easy. Just freeze the canister, dump in the ingredients, turn it on, and get ready! The instruction book is helpul with lots of basic recipes. When we made our ice cream or yogurt, we really don't measure everything that goes in there - Just pour it in. My kids love and I know it's healthy for them. You can substitute lower fat ingredients and it doesn't effect the end result. A must buy!
Good if not broken June 11, 2001 Juliet7 (Marina, Ca USA) 21 out of 27 found this review helpful
I ended up buying a factory reconditioned ice cream maker, but when I pulled it out of the box the bowl was leaking some strange unknown liquid. I sent it back immediately yet as of yet have not recieved my refund.(but assume that I will soon) I then went ahead and bought a brand new machine and it works great, no problems at all. If you want to read my review of that one go to the new Cuisinart ICE-20 page. So I would suggest that unless you want to test your luck you buy a new machine, but who knows maybe you will recieve your and it will work perfectly.
Excellent Product February 6, 2001 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this machine. I have every kitchen appliance known to man. I recently got married and had an incredibly hard time registering, this was the only appliance that I didn't already own, so I thought 'what the heck', it can't be worse than my wooden tub/ice/salt freezer. It was amazing! It makes the perfect quantity of ice cream from a dinner for 8 and the cost savings on store bought ice cream is great. Just one pint of whipping cream and one pint of milk, a little sugar and vanilla and you are good to go! I never follow a recipe, so the book is a good guide, but feel free to embellish yourself with fresh fruit, nuts, or your favorite candy bar.
They scream for this ice cream! February 24, 2001 Debbie McDonald (Lyle, WA USA) 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
Excuse the bad pun but my family is very excited to finally own this quality brand name ice cream maker and the fact that it is reconditioned makes no difference. First time out of the box we enjoyed fresh grapefruit ice and went on to try vanilla & chocolate ice cream. I can't wait for summer and lots of local fresh fruit to use it everyday. A second freezer bowl could be a plus. Recipes are easily halved but leftovers are no problem and desserts can be made sugar-free for a healthy snack anytime.
Never Pay for Commercial Ice Cream Again May 13, 2003 Lisa L. Ouellette (New Haven, CT USA) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
The Reconditioned Cuisinart is a fantastic bargain. When I was shopping around, I could not find a comparable product ... Don't be worried about buying a reconditioned product -- if it were not for the sticker on the box, I would have been unable to tell the difference between the ice cream maker I bought and a brand new one.Making ice cream is easy: just freeze the bowl, fill it with an ice cream mixture, put in the plastic mixing arm, cover, and press ON. Ice cream will be ready in 20-30 minutes, depending on the consistency you like. The plastic cover usually does not get dirty, so you only have to clean the mixing arm and the bowl. A word of caution: you need to get the bowl really cold for this to work. It has a saltwater solution sealed inside which freezes well below the freezing point of water, and this really needs to be frozen, or your ice cream will be soupy. The instructions said to freeze for at least 6 hours, but with my freezer on the coldest setting it takes closer to 24 hours. This is OK, since I just store the bowl in the freezer when I'm not using it, and I do not make ice cream more than once a day. Your ice cream will also not freeze properly if you start with too much in the freezer bowl. Remember that during freezing, a lot of air is being added to the ice cream, and there needs to be room for it to expand! Even when the bowl is really cold, the ice cream will not be the same consistency as you buy in the store -- it is a bit firmer than soft-serve ice cream. I think it is best when it comes right out of the ice cream maker, but if you want it firmer, you can put it in the freezer for a few hours before serving it. There are not very many recipes included in the instruction booklet, but there are enough to get you started. My favorite ice creams have come from adding different flavors to the recipe for basic vanilla (try adding a tablespoon of cinnamon -- Mmm!). I have used this product to make ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbets, and they have all turned out better than anything I could buy in a store. I will never pay for commercial ice cream again!
