Great for no frills grinding November 12, 2003 J. Thompson (Omaha Area, NE) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have had this grinder for about two years now, and find that for the most part it does its job well, but it isn't exceptional. Previous reviews mention a few of the problems I have with this model. I have to upend it to dump the grinds into the lid, and if you aren't fairly careful about pulling it apart, coffee can go everywhere. With the finer grinds that I prefer, it makes a lot of coffee dust, that gets packed in under the blades, sometimes nearly 1/4" thick. I have to wipe this dust out every time, and usually need to use this to make my coffee. This is fine if I am using a paper filter, as it catches this dust, but if I am using my reusable filter, the dust goes through and I end up with sludge at the bottom of my coffee pot. This grinder isn't very easy to clean. I use a damp paper towel to wipe out the bottom stainless steel portion, but getting close to and under the blade is a pain. I have cut myself doing this. The top portion is simply rinsed out in my sink or occasionally run through the top rack of my dishwasher. Another problem I am having is that the motor occasionally simply doesn't work. So far, banging the grinder on the counter while depressing the on button seems to kick it into gear, but as this problem is slowly becoming more frequent, I expect that sooner or later it just won't go.
Great little unit May 25, 2004 Alexander E. Paulsen (Jacksonville, Fl United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Not much to say about a coffee grinder other than it works fine and lasts a long time.I use mine every day. I got it when I given my Krups coffee maker. So it is 5 years old and had ground > 2000 pots worth. I like Jamaica Blue mountain coffee and this little dude grinds it just right. No muss no fuss. Its even relatively quiet for a grinder. It makes a nice noise but in the next room it's not objectionable. My old one would wake the neighborhood. Highly recommended product.
Not for spices at all! October 16, 2006 Daniel M. Pomerantz (St. Louis, MO) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
I needed a spice grinder and got this because it was the only one available locally at the time. The box on it said "Coffee and spice grinder," and my father used one of these for coffee for years, so I figured it had to be okay. After buying it, it was obvious that the "spice grinder" part was a marketing gimmick as the included docs didn't talk about it at all. End result, while it did a fine job grinding, it is impossible to clean! Neither the metal bowl nor the blade can be removed, so you can't scrub it, especially the bottom of the blade. There is also a seam between the bowl and the plastic which collects ground spices. Unless you want your freshly ground cinnamon tasting like coriander and black pepper, don't buy this unless you buy one for each spice. I'm sure it does a fine job with coffee, but for spices, it is not good and I feel ripped off. I kept it and cleaned as best I could until I found a Kitchen-Aid model, that while not quite as good at grinding, is able to be cleaned. Much better!
lasts forever November 27, 2001 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased this grinder in 1985 (in my pre-computer days)and used it almost daily until last year, when I purchased a new "state of the art" model. I donated it to my cooking school and it is still grinding coffee for 6-8 pots per day, working as well as it did the day it was purchased. I wish I had it back, as it is far superior to my new model. Make sure you purchase an extra for grinding spices!
Great for the price January 8, 2003 History Buff (Chicago, IL USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've owned two of these, only because my roommate kept the other one! It is a great product that can custom grind, although getting a fine grind on a lesser amount of coffee beans can be a bit of a challenge. It makes a great gift, too!
