An excellent value. However, the instructions state that cooking above 400 is not recommended. Most cast iron dutch ovens allow temperatures above 500 which is important.

Hi All: Have any of you thought of having items such as this tested for lead? With so many lead caused recalls in the toy world I would like a blurb on every product page of cooking utensils or any thing that comes in contact with your mouth. A quick test for lead on randomly selected pots, plates etc. with the results open to all. Not that much to ask when health is concerned.

I received this dutch oven for Christmas and it's just beautiful! The outside color is a dark red on the bottom, almost maroon, and lightens to a cherry red at the top. Inside is an off white/creamy color that gives the impression of being well-used and faded (so I'm not so worried about staining). I've used it several times (juiciest pot roast I've ever made and red beans and rice) and it conducts and holds heat fantastically, cleans up beautifully (dishwasher) and though it's not non-stick anything that gets stuck to the bottom lifts off really easily. It's heavy, but it's supposed to be. The handles are also cast-iron and though they warm they don't get too hot while cooking (nice, since I get distracted and tend to forget pot holders).
It's already a very valued item in my kitchen that I highly recommend to others!

This dutch oven is wonderful! Big, heavy and easy to clean (except for the weight). Really the ticket for a hearty gumbo or anything similar.

I've been thinking about purchasing an enamel on cast iron pan for years, but was put off by the price of some and the heft of all. I finally decided to try the Lodge 6 qt Dutch Oven in the Island Spice color because it was fairly inexpensive. I've only used it once so far, but I love the looks of the pot, and was very happy with the way it cooked and the ease of cleaning. I'm sure I'll use this pot often, and don't see the need to buy a more expensive brand!
