Yuck! You're better off with a blow-up doll April 15, 2005 Moe Charles (Anaheim, Calif.) 28 out of 69 found this review helpful
In a recent issue of Philadelphia magazine, Hugh Hefner's ex-girlfriend Sandy Bentley reveals: "Hefner had trouble finding satisfaction through intercourse; instead, he liked the girls to pleasure each other while he masturbated and watched gay porn." Hefner himself admitted to Mike Wallace on "60 Minutes" a few years ago that he's a swinger who swings both ways. As early as the 1950s, writer Gay Talese has reported that "Hef" allowed himself to be picked up by a homosexual man for gay sex in a public restroom in Chicago. As Playboy is only a reflection of Hefner's sexuality, not-so-latent homosexuality runs rampant throughout the magazine. In fact, the sub-title of the magazine should be amended to read "Entertainment For Effeminate Men Who Hate To Go Outdoors." Can you imagine an article in Playboy about any real manly activity? An article about fishing, hunting dangerous animals, soldering of fortune, fighting Commies hand-to-hand, fixing up a hot-rod, or winning a medal of honor in the Arabian desert or test-piloting the latest commercial jet? Instead, you get perfumed pages of great-looking guys modeling the latest urban fashion and telling you what cologne to wear and what stereo equipment to buy to play your New Age music. And then you have "advice columns" that help you along with your nascent sexual perversions. And the women? It doesn't take long to realize "Playmates" resemble the drag queens of "Gay Pride" parades in West Hollywood, Fire Island and Castro Street. Playboy's basic attitude about women is that they're totally repulsive in their natural state. Therefore, the magazine gives them ridiculous fake boobs and lips and hairdos, gobs of makeup, careful key lighting and trick photography--all smoke and mirrors--before extensive digital retouching and airbrushing. The women resemble not the fabled "Girl Next Door," but blank-faced waxwork mannikins with completely neutered sexuality. Only after this laborious "makeover" will these blow-up dolls supposedly ignite enough masturbatory lust in the consuming "man who reads Playboy" to ring up a magazine sale. Yuck! Who wants to be part of Hefner's girly pajama party at this late stage in the game? Throw this trash in the fire, with the rest of the porn, and try being a REAL MAN for once, huh??
Ah, Carmella De Cesare Proves There Is A God! August 10, 2006 Steve Guardala (Am Moving To Review Site That Stops No Voting.) 28 out of 32 found this review helpful
For over fifty years Hugh Hefner has beaten his critics with a very diverse magazine. Beyond great pictures, Playboy has been a leader in fighting for rights that we so often take for granted. Whether defending what consulting adults do in private, or how to worship or not to as we please. Mr. Hefner has been there without the extremes of the ACLU. It also has timely articles on law, science, sports, arts and entertainment. The women in Playboy are more sensual than in Maxim or FHM. Who often just have the revolving flavor of the month girl. Mr. Hefners creation has outclassed and outlasted its competition for a reason. I deduct 1 star because, blonds {usually out of a bottle} are overepresented than their actual % of our population. Mr. Hefner, please bring on more Oriental and Mediteranean goddesses. Like Kelly Hu and Vanessa Marcil.
THE Men's magazine November 25, 2001 25 out of 38 found this review helpful
If ever a magazine was about its publisher, "Playboy" is about Hugh Hefner. His interests, his women, his tastes in fiction. All of them combine to make "Playboy" the definitive magazine for adult men. Though of course, "Playboy" is known for its pictorials, and that's why most of us buy it. (Who are we trying to kid?) Hef has allowed some other people to gain a little bit too much control with his magazine of late. That's why some of the pictorials, while still featuring beautiful women, are done a little strange. Think of some of those weird Madison Avenue photo shoots for the overpriced clothes advertised in the magazine. That strange sort of "art" style. Still, the Playmates are as beautiful as ever, and just about every issue has something in it to make you want to keep it.
Bringing light into a man's world! October 29, 2003 C. Conard (Fort Collins, CO) 23 out of 36 found this review helpful
Playboy is the best magazine available currently for men over 18. The legendary magazine is a classic in its own right, and it wins over other favorites such as Hustler and Penthouse by a mile. Playboy is much better than Hustler as well. It is more informative, is more fun to get a subscription to, and above all, Playboy has the best pictures of the hottest women in the world! For any sexually craving male, Playboy is available. The best pics combined with the best information, that is, if anybody really cares about the information, equals the best magazine on store shelves. I think Hefner is a genius for bringing such a great mag into our modern world. The bottom line is this:you must subscribe to Playboy today! I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Another great aspect of Playboy is the rare celeb shots that it gets, so get it NOW!!
Female Fan July 26, 2007 Jenna Tondre (USA) 19 out of 22 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of playboy ever since i found a stack in my dad's closet. Why? because the articles are great! that was years ago and i still fight my boyfriend for the chance to read it first. It's one the few magazines left that you can really read. I'm so sick of the female magazines that tell you how to please your man and all that junk. you only hve to buy one mag and you know all the information for the next 11 issues. EVERRYONE should have a subscription to playboy, not just the boys!!!
