5 out of 5 stars The best magazine out there   December 20, 2002

Simply put, Game Informer is one of the most entertaining, most well written, most fun to read magazines out there. Heck, for me at least, Game Informer beats out magazine greats such as time for sheer entertainment value.

the magazine is written in a very easy to read format. Each month the lovable staff excercises thier ablility to write hilarious subtitles on picutures (They love fart jokes), write histarical reviews on bad games, such as, "I would rather burn in the fires of Mt. Doom then play this game" (LOTR: The Fellowship of the ring) "I cried with joy the moment Shreck was ejected from my X-Box, I then smashed it into a million pices with a hammer" (Shreck Party game for X-Box) and my personal favorite "I've seen better texturing in a pool of my own vomit! Evil has a new name and that name is Azurick. Burn foul Deamon, burn!" (Azurick: Rise of Plathenta) Every one of the staff members write very well written and entertaining reviews. Overall, Game Informer is your best choice for Video gaming.

The good:
Very well written
Reviews are generally very reliable
Fantastic sense of humor. Its great to see a magazine that dosent take itself too seriously.

The bad:
Nothing

The ugly:
The magazine only comes out once a month, hence 30 miserable days of waiting for the next issue.

Summary: Any video game fan who loves big magazines and a great sense of humor cant go wrong with Game Informer

1 out of 5 stars One of the worst gaming magazines I have ever read.   March 16, 2003

Game Informer is a terrible, terrible gaming magazine. The information is late most of the time, the reviews are the worst of any gaming magazine, and sometimes the information is false. To top it off, most of the people dont even want to subscribe to this but they have no choice - Game Stop mails it to them if you spend a certain amount of money there regardless if you wan't it or not.If you wan't a good gaming magazine,I recomend you should pick up these instead of Game Informer:EGM,Gamepro,OXM,OPM or even Nintendo Power if you want an offical Nintendo magazine. They are all much better choices than this horrible magazine.

5 out of 5 stars a gorgeous magazine - get it now   August 9, 2003

I was subscribing to 4 major gaming magazines, but not GI. I recently came across a copy, and let me tell you, I have never seen a better looking mag. I appreciated large and abundant screenshots as well as uncluttered layout, which surpass those of any other magazine. As far as the contents goes, let me just give you one example - in their review of Mario Party 4, the game HYPED by EGM, Gamers.com and Gamespot.com (yeah, big game companies DON'T buy themselves good reviews), they called it what it really was - a game for 5 yr olds, and gave it a 3 out of 10. Had I read this in time, I would've saved myself $50. You can't go wrong with this - get it now.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of Paper   January 28, 2008

This magazine is what people like to call garbage.

As we all know, Game Informer is owned by Game Stop- which in turn only drives the people who make the magazine to reach and maintain a corporate agenda. The reviews, as terrible and short as they are, are incredibly biased, and the magazine basically gives off the feeling of a giant advertisement.

The reviewers are also, among other things, incredibly hypocritical- for example, they recently gave the Wii game No More Heroes a low 6, largely because they felt the violence in the game was meant to "shock" and "offend". How strange, then, that the same magazine names Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, a game littered with more bloodshed, gore, sex, and drugs than No More Heroes, one of the best games of all time?

The magazine is a puzzling mess of hypocrisy and incompetence. The writers and editors seem only to cater to what the corporate aspect of gaming wants to hear, with little regard to the actual value of the software or providing the reader with legitimate information.

As one member on the GameFAQs forum puts it: "If Gameinformer says it's bad, buy buy buy, play play play." That's about how unreliable and wasteful this "magazine" is.
