Newsweek irresponsible, unbacked Koran-flushing story May 16, 2005 P. Fry 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
I'd never waste money on a subscription to this rag, but I selectively read articles from it in the doctor's office all the time. It will be interesting to see how Newsweek deals with the outrage from the Dan Rather-like "Koran flushing" tidbit. It seems like some apology is in order for not fully vetting the story. If some heads roll, I'll jack up my rating - they are biased, but their articles aren't the worst. Like I said, confine reading to the doctor's office.
GOOD JOB ON REPORTING THE KORAN STORY IN CUBA May 16, 2005 S. Weiss (VENICE, CA United States) 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
NEW YORK - In an apology to readers this week, Newsweek acknowledged errors in a story alleging U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay desecrated the Quran. The accusations, which the magazine vowed to re-examine, spawned protests in Afghanistan that left 15 dead and scores injured. Responding to harsh criticism from Muslim leaders worldwide, the Pentagon promised to investigate the charges and pinned the deadly clashes on Newsweek for what it described as "irresponsible" reporting. THEY WANTED TO SEE IF THEY COULD DO MORE DAMAGE LIKE IN RATHER GATE ....THEY SHOUD BE HAPPY ..THEY DID
An anti-american liberal elite publication May 18, 2005 Albert Lee (Denver, CO) 12 out of 44 found this review helpful
The people who publish this magazine should be in jail. The elite liberals behind this magazine have admitted to publishing false stories about our troops in cuba doing bad things to arab books. The editors (to the top) need to go in the same way that all the people at CBS had to go when they published false stories about our president and tried to throw the election to the liberals. The important mission of bringing freedom and american values to afghanistan is one we cannot allow anti-american liberal publications to sabotage. Authors like David Horowitz have explained how liberals are the silent footsoldiers of terror in partnership with the terrorists (see his book: unholy allance: radical islam and the american left). The connections between the liberal elite media and the american left are already well known. The only good thing to come out of all this is that afghanistan showed how far they have come in learning freedom. The terrorists attempted to take over the government and they were stopped in their tracks by Afghans who love their country and love freedom. This needs to be investigated by congress and the justice department. Our leaders need to dig into the connections between the elite media, liberal front organizations and the terrorists in afghanistan. The propoganda in newsweek and the attempt to overthrow freedom in Afghanistan were far too well coordinated to be coincidence. Freedom of the press is exatly that: freedom. Our constitution and founding fathers never intended for freedom to turn into a government-backed right to lie in a magazine about US troops and to give aid to the enemies of freedom in afghanistan. Our leaders must stop this treasonous nonsense now.
"Magazine for the masses?" April 30, 2002 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
If you haven't heard of the Newsweek magazine you are probably from another planet. You can read plenty about what the magazine is or isn't in the prior reviews. I have been reading it for about 5 years and finally am graduating to something more serious and objective. You can't really expect much in either one of those categories when you consider that the magazine is jointly owned and operated by the two behemoths of the global business: General Electric (who owns NBC-the-network and "NBC" in the MSNBC-the-cable-channel) and Microsoft (who owns the MSNBC-the-website and "MS" in the MSNBC-the-cable-channel). There are sometimes glimpses of hope for objectivity or insightfulness but they are usually relegated to the last page.
TOO LIBERAL FOR ME December 5, 2003 10 out of 49 found this review helpful
This magazine is probably funded by the DNC. Get real. If you can't publish unbiased news articles, don't bother. I could turn on the TV for that. I thought Journalism was about reporting the whole truth....not here. I think I'll stick with reading Newsmax. The publishers of this magazine should be embarrassed to say the least. The American people deserve much better than this.
