Conspiracy Theorists -- Beware! May 12, 2003 matt1619 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I hardly see how this magazine could be seen as a tool of the establishment or the foreign policymaking elite of this country, since it has published articles on Iraq that call for containment rather than war...I'm sure that might alienate some of you, but rest assured that this magazine has viewpoints of extremely intelligent observers and policymakers from all sides of the aisle...overall, a great read. Definitely worth the few dollars.
Yawn. Provocative it is not. April 9, 2004 M. Whited (Cambridge, MA United States) 11 out of 24 found this review helpful
I find Foreign Policy to be a bit too cocky, dull, and long-winded. I subscribed hoping to find stimulating intellectual discussion, but Foreign Policy can't seem to shake its centrist shackles. Its articles are less well-researched and provocative than they are lengthy, and I was less than impressed with many so-called "expert" authors who seized the opportunity to publish op-eds rather than engaging original arguments. Foreign Policy's decision to feature Samual Huntington's bunk argument regarding the Hispanic "threat" to America on the cover is a case in point. On the other hand, Foreign Policy is not a bad read if it is considered supplemental. Just don't expect to be blown away.
Excellent View of the World November 14, 2004 Daniel Hurley (Chesapeake, VA.) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a magazine I frequently get confused with Foreign Affairs magazine. The primary difference is the longer well-written essays by leading experts in Affairs whereas Foreign Policy has a more frequently published, more up to date and more direct version of the other. It would be great to have both since Policy keeps you more current with a high degree of professionalism while the other gives you the deeper detail. If you don't have a lot of time to read, Policy is the one you'll need and enjoy.
On Par With The Economist and Better Than Foreign Affairs Journal! May 2, 2006 S. Stefaniuk (Virginia Beach, VA United States) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I'm happy that I ordered a subscription to this magazine as it not only matches, but surpasses the content provided in the Foreign Affairs Journal. The student discount rate I received (at the official foreign policy website) has the most reasonable price. Each new issue of FP contains a barrage of perspectives on numerous topics that are very relevant today. Photos, graphs, and charts also help to breathe life into each article and helped me to better grasp the content presented. This content is also available to subscribers online, with the addition of "web exclusives" and a "FP Blog." I haven't been this happy with a magazine subscription since I first subscribed to The Economist. Well worth the investment of time and money required to read each and every article as it acts as an outstanding supplement to anyone's current subscription to The Economist or Foreign Affairs Journal. Like myself, you won't be disappointed!
Very good. July 10, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am a 22-year old student, and I always enjoy reading Foreign Policy. Great for the open-minded. Do note, however, that no matter your persuasion, your views will be challenged every month in there. No side is safe -- but that's what makes it good journalism. It is not the cream of the crop but still worth reading, especially being so inexpensive.
