My favorite magazine ever July 19, 2006 kris10marie (NY) 30 out of 37 found this review helpful
I've been subscribing to mental_floss for about two years now, and still read every issue from cover to cover the same day it arrives. It's fun and light-hearted without being stupid, and touches on a wide range of topics. I've given several gift subscriptions, and most of the recipients liked it so much that they've renewed their subscriptions on their own.
Do you like learning? September 2, 2006 DLF (Denver area, CO USA) 28 out of 36 found this review helpful
I've actually met people who have said, "I'm too old to learn new things." And younger folk who have said, "That's too much like being in class." If you're one of these people, don't bother with Mental Floss magazine, or with going to school any more, or for that matter, with continuing to be alive in the first place. Living is learning, and this magazine helps edify and entertain you while you're doing all that living and learning. Most highly recommended. But if you like staying stupid, you're probably not reading this. Carry on, then. P.S. To the person who complained that the editors correct their previous mistakes and clarify their obfuscations in each issue: you'd prefer the wide variety of publications and TV "news" shows which don't ever acknowledge human error? Good luck with that.
totally engrossing January 30, 2006 B. Emory (Wilmington NC) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I just recieved my first copy of mental floss and I havent been able to put it down. In one sitting I found out the meaning behind common nursery rhymes, the origins of conflicts in Rwanda and East Timor, and realized the importance of physicists. Mental Floss is different then Time, Newsweek etc. because it puts information and knowlege out there in a way that wont bore you to tears. I can feel my brain expanding everytime I turn the page and feel much more confident in global news and relive prior events, fads, and trends that I soon would have forgotten (rubix cube?). I really am eager to keep getting new editions. Maybe in a few years, I can finally send for my MENSA exam.
Go get a copy today! September 3, 2003 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
I bought an issue of Mental Floss at the bookstore after reading an article about it in the Washington Post. It is certainly the most enjoyable, irreverant perodical out there today. Beyond just factoids and useless information, the editors seem to strive to put knowledge into context, so that when you are waxing on the industrial revolution's relationship to Marxism at your next party, you'll actually know what you are talking about! I think this magazine would be a great gift for anybody, but it is certainly perfect for young people with a thirst for knowledge. The perfect thing to have on the coffee table of your first apartment. Go buy a copy today!

I bought this mag hoping against hope that it would be a stimulating read. Instead I felt like I was just duped into buying a magazine staffed completely by people suffering ADHD. There was NOTHING in depth. I was completely frustrated...in fact I tossed it across the bedroom up finishing! If you are looking for REAL mental stimulation, try WQ or similar DEEP mags. I do give it two stars because it certainly would seem to entertain and cater to most of our culture on speed. So if you are like most popular culture, you will probably like it.
